We farewelled Roger Curr at his funeral last Friday, along with a good number of Rotarians, family, and friends. Johnathan (Rogers eldest son) shared with us the booklet that Roger produced in the past few months, “Tools and Tenors”, a story of his life and memories. – His working life spent as a Tradesman and his enjoyment of singing, being a member of the NZ Male Choir. Roger had been a Rotarian since 1986 and honorary member since June this year.
This is a major adjustment for Meg, his partner, also now an Honorary member, as she navigates her future pathway without Roger, and she knows she has our support as needed.
Meg is the first Woman inducted as a Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Timaru, in 1991, she was also the first Woman Club President, in the 1999/2000 year, and is now our first Woman Honorary member.
As we move to our trial of two meetings a month, this meeting was our last one until the 22nd August – NO MEETING NEXT WEEK (15th August). Meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month in the main. Remember, this is just a trial, nothing permanent decided.
Jess Hewitson brought us up to speed with plans for our club involvement at the Aspect Trust Tug-o-War on the 26th August. We will be operating the Hot Dog Van and a BBQ between 6-11pm on the night, so we are hoping to be very busy. If you haven’t put your name on the roster, it’s not too late, just let Jess know and she will include you in.
Jess also has received notification from the organizers of the CAMS event (Classic Motorcycles) that their event will take place again at Levels Raceway, 24,25 & 26th November, requesting us to provide food via our Hot Dog Van. The consensus was favorable, so she will give them a positive reply and set up a roster. If this is something you would like to be involved in, check your calendars, and complete the roster. We had a very busy weekend last year when we did it for the first time, and a lot of fun.
Bev Slooten gave a summary of the district9999 Foundation Report, along with a brief update from the recent Charitable Trust meeting. It was agreed at the Charitable Trust meeting, to donate a further $5,000.00 towards the completion of the CPlay Caroline Bay Playground upgrade.
Those of us present, completed together the D9999 Strategic Plan–Club survey, this has also been sent to all D9999 members individually, via an email from Valda Cordes, so if you weren’t at the meeting last night, please look, complete, and submit it yourself.
We then participated in “Bingo” with Jess Hewitson as our Bingo Master, with some interesting lines and facts as we went along and much hilarity. Two cards each was the challenge for most (we all had memories of watching the seasoned players at the Bay Carnival, managing 4 or more cards, and still keeping an eye on others). Thanks Jess, that was fun.
Speakers: - If you have any suggestions for speakers at our meetings or vocational visits, please contact Lionel.
REMEMBER – NO MEETING 15th August – See you all again 22nd.
