As we have moved to our trial of two meetings a month, this is our second week without an arranged meeting and I must confess to feeling a little “out of routine” and my stack of “for”…, “ or “give this to”…., Is growing, and I have made more phonecalls.
Remember, this is just a trial, nothing permanent decided.
That having been said, we have not been completely inactive, to the contrary, it has been a very busy couple of weeks for some and a few have still taken the opportunity to meet for a meal anyway.
The Aspect Trust “Tug-o-War”was a super busy evening for Jess Hewitson, Bruce Borrell, Jenny & Basil Ensor, Julie & Guy Dockrill, Ian Gray, Marie Steel, Bev Slooten, Lionel Wilson, and me as we catered for the 800+ participants, guests and organisers of the event with Hot dogs, Chips, and a sausage sizzle. This was such a worthy cause to be involved with and I am sure, if asked again, we would do it all again, forgetting how cold it was!! A HUGE THANK YOU once again, to everyone involved.
National Science & Technology Forum: - Bev Slooten and Cheryl Rose have completed interviews of the five applicants we received.
YMCA Open Day: As our club has provided financial support via funding from the RJ & CF Moyes Trust which helped with the set-up of the YMCA “Y-Drive” programme, Cheryl Rose and I attended their open day last Friday to check progress.
Wood Delivery: - last Saturday morning saw Stephen Don, Lance Wensley, Ian Behrnes, Jim Garden, Jenny & Basil Ensor, Bev Slooten & I deliver wood to several very grateful recipients. Tony Henderson had also followed up earlier. This helped deplete the wood stocks held in the shed.
Kindling Working Bee: Tony has asked that we enter 30th September in our calendars for a “kindling working bee” down at the shed. If you can assist, please notify Tony.
Centennial Tree project: Bruce Borrell and Basil Ensor recently checked the growth progress of the trees our club members planted along the Point Highway last year and reported only about 5 have succumbed either to the mower or the weather and will be replaced. Basil also used his tree knowledge to prune those that needed a little re-shaping.
RYLA: - applications are now open- if you are aware of any worthy recipients, make them aware of how to apply and let Bev Slooten know.
Speakers: - if you have any suggestions for speakers at our meetings, or vocational visits, please contact Lionel.
Thank you to all our members, as for all the hours spent in front of the community, we also have some very active members behind the scenes making sure our club matters including IT, Trusts and finances are kept legal and compliant and running smoothly.
See you all again 12th September.
