Last Friday evening I had the privilege of attending the official opening (finally) of the newly resurfaced Trust Aoraki South Canterbury All Weather Athletic Track at Aorangi Park. The Charitable Trust supported this project with a $10,000.00 donation and after much hard work and delays due to Covid, it was a pleasure to see the results being enjoyed by a wide range of athletes. Our Mayor, Nigel Bowan even did a partial lap as a member of the first relay team to run following the cutting of the ribbon and declaring the track open.
His week wasn’t a “speaker meeting” but several members and Basil, still gathered for a meal together and it was lovely to have Gilly join us.
Wednesday morning, I joined the “Wood Crew” down at the shed where Deidre and Gill from Presbyterian Support Service South Canterbury Family Works presented the Team with a well-deserved Certificate of thanks and a lovely morning tea. Appreciation all round for both teams for the wonderful work they do in making a difference in our communities.
A small group of us will travel to Geraldine on Saturday to attend the 75th Celebration dinner recognizing the charter of the Temuka/Geraldine Rotary club by the Rotary Club of Timaru.
“Toot for Tucker” – 20th November - Greg has circulated info for this to all members, please let him know if you can help as numbers will be needed by the organizers.
The Hot Dog Van will be in action at the CAMS Classic Motorcycle event at Levels Raceway, 24, 25 & 26th November. If you can assist for a couple of hours, please let Jess Hewitson know, there are still a few gaps on the roster.
The Santa Parade coincides with the Rose Festival on Sunday, December 3rd again this year, which means another busy day. The Hot Dog van will be operating at the bay, and we will also be asking for volunteers to act as Road Marshalls during the Parade which starts at 2pm. If neither Hot Dog Van assistance or Road Marshalling sounds like you, then Lionel will also need a team to check the floats for Health and Safety prior to the start of the parade. Please consider if and where you can help and let Lionel know.
The Santa Parade is a combined Community Voluntary event organized by the two Lions clubs and the two Rotary clubs in Timaru.
To date we have not had anyone volunteer to convene “Santa Paws”, if anyone is interested, please let Cheryl Rose know.
Our next meeting will be a little different, when those who wish to, are booked to attend “Glorious” showing at The Little Theatre on the 31st October. If anyone wishes to meet for a meal prior, it is an option at the TT&C, choose a meal of your choice off the menu.
Our next scheduled meeting will be 14th November.
Wow!!! So much happening with such an amazing team, and not everything has been listed. Thank you to those who are willing to be involved and put their hands up to help make a difference and provide assistance to our community.
