President Cheryl's Message

Hi everyone

So we had a week off, I trust you made the most of it, enjoyed your Anzac Day, remembered relatives who sacrificed on our behalf, and sadly didn’t return, or with relief did.

This week we are starting 30mins later as we welcome our Ashburton Rotary colleagues. For those who aren’t aware, we helped them start their journey with Rotary. If you can arrive early to reduce a potential buildup at the bar that would be great.

See you on Tuesday
Yours aye
Cheryl

RI VP Nicki Scott Event Invitation

We have been offered an amazing opportunity to meet with Rotary International Vice President 2022-23 Nicki Scott in mid-May. Nicki will be in Christchurch for a couple of days and will be our guest and keynote speaker on Monday 15 May at a multi-club meeting to be held at the New South Brighton Surf Club from 5.45 pm.

Upcoming HDV Event

Save the date!
We have an upcoming HDV event with a slight difference! We will be operating the HDV along with a BBQ for the Aspect Trust Fundraising Tug of War event.

The event will be held at the Morgans Road Indoor Stadium, Saturday 26th August (during the evening) and we will be the food vendor where ticket holders can redeem their tickets for some snacks from us, as well as selling food if they are still hungry!

Details and times etc will be finalised closer to the time but I will be looking for both BBQ people and HDV workers for the event.  The roster has been updated on the website so you can add your name if you are free on the evening (by clicking here...).
Let me know if you have any issues getting into the roster.

Many Thanks
Jess

An Evening At The Movies

Lionel is endeavouring to organise a trip to a movie at Movie Max - possibly on a Tuesday evening (instead of having a 'Meet & Greet night at TTCC) in May or June.
Anyone who is interested is asked to check the 'Coming Soon' movies on the 'Movie Max Digital' website by clicking here... & emailing Lionel of any they would be interested in attending by clicking here...

SCDL - Captain Cain

The Little Theatre's latest show ('Captain Cain') is the story of Timaru's early years (to view more information click here...).

Captain Cain, whose statue sits outside the Landing Services building, is fondly known as 'the father of Timaru'. Extensive research over the last 20 years has enabled Carol Angland to dramatise the early years of European settlement in South Canterbury.

I am organising for us to attend on Tuesday 23rd May @ 7:30 pm (which is one of our meeting nights with no guest speaker) f you would like to attend, please email me ASAP by clicking here... - so I can block-book our tickets.

Tickets are $20 each if we can get 20 seats sold.

This may be a popular show (as written by a local & about a subject close to the hearts of many), please reply promptly so we don't miss out.
Regards
Tony

Information Required

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.

Editors Humour
The Parking Ticket

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
Well, for example, the other day, my wife (Mary Elizabeth) & I (Jim) went into town & visited a shop. When we came out, there was a parking warden writing out a ticket.
We went up to him & I said, "Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?"
He ignored us & continued writing the ticket.
I called him an arsehole. He glared at me & started writing another ticket for having worn-out tyres.
So Mary Elizabeth called him a shithead. He finished the second ticket & put it on the windscreen with the first.
Then he started writing more tickets.
This went on for 20 minutes.
The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
Just then our bus arrived, & we got on it & went home. We weren't too concerned about the vehicle's owner because of the sticker on the back window 'I support The Greens'

If people say they just love the smell of books, I always want to pull them aside and ask, To be clear, do you know how reading works?
