President Andrea's Message

It's always a pleasure to hear Julie Dockrill and Gary Dennison talk about the Mongolian Maternal Health Project. The passion to which they have applied themselves to this project is amazing. The results of Mongolian Project from the last visit they did are, mortality 75% reduction and 66% morbidity reduction.
To put this into perspective - "Number One" maternity hospital does 20,000 births a year, it doesn't take a mathematician long to work out this has been an outstanding result for all of the long hours and hard work they have done.
The ongoing commitment they have undertaken is tremendous.

It's just amazing what can be done with Passion Skills and working with the Rotary Foundation.
Thank you Julie for showing us what is possible within Rotary.
Have a wonderful weekend
See you all on Tuesday night.
Andrea.
P.S. Am currently traveling with the Sergeant to her Rotary Shout, hoping not to cause any purse evacuations or alarms. Fingers are crossed.

Bribery Of Immediate Past Sergeant ??

Shaun is shown proudly wear his "Pointy" colourful Mongolian hat that Julie brought back from her last visit (and presented at Tuesdays meeting).
Apparently Shaun asked her to get it for him (it is unclear what she had done before her trip that required a bribe to the then sergeant to get out of being fined).

2018/19 RYE Student

Our RYE Student Olivia Pehrsdotter is from Brunflo, Sweden.
Jess collected her from the Christchurch Airport on Friday 20th July.

Still looking for 1 more family to host Olivia.  We would be needing a family for about the start of February 2019. Host time is 12-14weeks approx.

If anyone can (or knows of a possible family) please contact Jess (hewitson_jessica@hotmail.com or
(021) 886 812).

Remember also if anyone is traveling around the region if they can include Olivia to also contact Jess.

Rotary Professional Development Exchange.

At the the South Pacific President Elect Training Seminar and Rotary Know How, there was mention that the District is planning a Professional Development Exchange, (PDE), with Tasmania.

The focus of the PDE will be tourism, agriculture and engineering.
The exchange is likely to happen in April 2019.
The PDE Committee will be looking for nominations for a Team Leader and outstanding young people between the ages of 18 and 40 to join the group. Unlike the old Group Study Exchanges, nominations will be open to people who are also Rotarians.

Further information will be following shortly.
If you have any queries please just let me know.

Kind Regards
Andrew Hamilton
