President Andrea's Message .
Today, while I was working, a customer said she wanted to live in Timaru. She felt Timaru had a real heart. What a compliment to our city. I for one agree with it. We know how wonderful our people are also how great it is to live in a place with so much to offer everyone who lives in it.
Bailey Lissington was an inspiration to us all. He will be a name to remember. His chosen field of Mechateronics sound amazing. I'm sure he will end up a leader in his field.
How great is it to see so many people receiving benefit from the Moyes Trust.

Bailey Lissington.
Bailey Lissington, Deputy Head Boy at Timaru Boys High School, recently represented Rotary District 9980 at the NZ National Science & Technology Forum in Auckland, a two week course, attended by students from throughout New Zealand.
Bailey is a highly motivated and talented student who is already completing University papers in his final year of Secondary school and The Rotary Club of Timaru was delighted to support and sponsor Bailey with his application to attend the Forum in January.
At our last tea meeting members were given an insight into the activities and opportunities that were on offer during the two weeks and the wonderful experience and knowledge gained by Bailey, who described it as “amazing”.
A very worthy recipient, well done Bailey.
Continuing their discussions following the meeting, Bailey, Robin Peterson, Peter Russell & Malcolm Cone.

1. $3416 - Blue Light Edge Program.
A six week course for twelve pupils aged between 13 and 17 from the Timaru Boys High School, four with leadership potential, four who would benefit from a bit of development and four who would benefit from a LOT of development. The course is designed to extend a young person's mind, physical capability and academic potential. At the end of the six weeks course there will be a cycling challenge from the Alps to the Pacific, the top three performers will then go away on the "Life Skills Leadership Program" at Burnham Military Camp.
2. $1529 - Timaru Girls High School Robotics Club.
After their excellent presentation to us in November, we funded the purchase of specific equipment to assist them in their ongoing start up program. Their long term goal is to develop their programing skills and eventually open their club to other schools in the area. A club visit to them will be arranged when they have further developed.
3. $4000 - Parkinson's NZ South Canterbury.
We have funded twice weekly individual gym memberships for a year together with speech and singing exercise classes for approximately 25 people. Parkinson's SC support approximately 100 people in the South Canterbury area, many of whom are housebound. There is no cure for Parkinsons and the NZ Brain research Unit predicts numbers will double by 2035.
4. $1495 - Multiple Sclerosis South Canterbury
We provided funding for a lightweight wheelchair to be held by the Society which will be used as a temporary loan to anyone with M.S who is waiting for their "made to measure" wheelchair through the health system which can take up to three months.
Summary
Andrea, Bev and I have had a busy and rewarding six months and still have a couple of projects in mind. I am happy to say that our club night on March 19th will feature speakers from Parkinson's and M.S to tell us a little more about their organisations. In addition Leola Smith, the Manager of the Cancer Society in Timaru will be with us and would like to acknowledge the help of our club's Charitable Trust in providing funding for shelving, new chairs and tables for their refurbished office. We are working on a plaque acknowledging Timaru Rotary to be displayed in their reception area.

The answer to the last riddle:-
A. What does “N-O” spell?
The word "what" is spelled with four letters (w, h, a, and t). The word "sometimes" is spelled with 9 letters (s,o,m,e,t,i,m,e, and s) etc.
