Contrary to rumour, I am not unwell. Never had a cold in my life. Just a slight tickle in my throat that prevents me from speaking; as it erupts into a cough pretending to be deep centred, in my chest. A few deep-sea green muscles emanating out my nose, you pay good money for those.

The doctor knows I am not really ill. She says "Don't come near my surgery, keep well away!! Go to the supermarket get Panadol or some other such stuff. Just in case you are really unwell keep away. You might contaminate my surgery and kill off my patients; then how will I eat?"

Westport Flood Relief.

The following email has been received by all District 9980 Clubs from DG Nick Woods.

As you will be aware (unless you're based internationally) Westport on the West Coast of the South Island has been hit hard by flooding over the weekend, as part of District 9970 our next-door neighbour, and soon to be fellow D9999 Rotarians.
Westport Rotarians have been busy assisting in the cleanup and recovery effort.

Attached is the mission brief and outline of what has been happening to date from PDG Gary Hopkinson (click here to read).

Timaru Club members please contact Lynette Wilson directly if you have the skills and the time to assist.
If you are able to assist financially then also please contact Lynette to see what is needed most.

It's early days, so please keep those in Westport in your thoughts over the coming weeks and months ahead.

MEMBERS’ BIRTHDAY DONATIONS TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

As you probably know, Club members are asked to make a donation to the Rotary Foundation each year on their birthday. The amount of the donation (if any) is entirely up to the member; as a guideline, many members donate the equivalent of $1 per week - $50 for the year.

In the past, many members have made their donation by cheque but that option is no longer available for most.  In future it would be helpful if you would make your donation by internet banking deposit to the Charitable Trust’s bank account:

Account name:     The Rotary Club of Timaru Charitable Trust

  Account number: 03-0887-0241664-000

  Particulars:          Birthday donation

  Reference:          Your name

Alternatively, you can put a cash donation in an envelope marked with your name and “Birthday donation” and hand it to the Treasurer.

From today this information will be available by a link on the LHS of the bulletin (under 'Handy Information For Members').

Club Activity & Project Photos.

We are preparing to update the photos on our Clubrunner website & bulletin.
Can any member who has photos that they think would be suitable to show the club in action (highlighting what we do in the community or make donations to) please email them to John Barton (jrcbarton@gmail.com).
Photos need to be of a style that can be edited into a rectangular shape (like the 'Y-Drive' photo above).

Friday At 5.

image

The Socials Committee is holding a "Friday At 5" get together at 'Monteiths on the Bay Hill' on 30th July.
There is no need to confirm your attendance, just turn up if you are able, for about an hour.

Notice of New Membership Application.

Second Notice.

An application has been received from Natasha Hammond to become a member of our club - Natasha is a 'Local Proppy Real Estate Expert' employed at Proppy Real Estate, Timaru.

Hospital Visitors

For the 2021-22 Rotary year Margaret Perry & Ann Carnie are the 'Hospital Visitors' for the club and request that when any member hears of a current member or associate member (or their immediate family) being in hospital (or unwell at home) that they contact them and let them know.

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.
Stephen

Editors Humour.

A booking office had three phones. One day during lunch, a staff member was responsible for answering all of them. It was a constant repeat of “May I help you?” or “Will you hold?” I guess she got confused because she surprised one man on the other end of the line when answering his call with, “May I hold you?”
____________

A local lumberyard was having an open house, and a man's wife really wanted to go. the man, though, had no interest.
After badgering him with no luck, she finally said, “If you don’t go, I’ll be the only woman there.”
The man shrugged. “If I go, you’ll still be the only woman there.”
__________

After a man's beloved dog Lucky passed away, his daughter tried to explain to her four-year-old son what had happened in terms he might understand.
“Remember that baby bird we found on the sidewalk the other day?” she asked.
As the truth sank in, Ian grew alarmed: “Lucky fell out of a tree?”
