President Jess's Message.

This week we were joined by former Rotarians Roly Veitch and Dick Dodds.  These hard case chaps are organising a Paul Harris Fellows luncheon/reunion group. WHAT A FAB IDEA! 😊
They are looking to coordinate all the PHF throughout the SC region for a lunch about 3 times a year. First lunch is set for the 6th November, information has been sent out to active and honorary members but we are looking for a club liaison person for our club to ensure we are getting in touch with all previous PHF and organise our group numbers for the lunch etc.  Please let me know if you could help there.

I have already had confirmation that Jack J and Ron W will be attending from Glenwood Home so surely that is some motivation for our active members to get on board!

(This is a 'Partners Night' - refer President Jess's 3rd September email)

Followed by a Charitable Trust Board meeting at Lynnete & Lionel's (166B North St)

Members are reminded to put in an apology for the meeting by noon on Monday (otherwise they are liable to be charged) - click on the following link to apologise:-

Speaker Kieran Parsons (NZ Police) - Talking on 'Police Armed Offenders Squad'

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

Airport Signs.

Dick and Dave spent some time mounting the signs on Monday morning and looking good. Somehow Dave missed the Cape Horn sign being made but will get this sorted.

JR McKenzie Youth Education Fund - Outward Bound  Scholarships.

Each year, the JR McKenzie Youth Education Fund sponsors young people to attend a 21 day Outward Bound Course.  This year is no different and we are fortunate to have two scholarships to give away, therefore we are again on the hunt for potential course participants.

If you know of anyone (aged 16 - 18) who may be interested in attending contact Lynette Wilson (Projects Committee).

Course Information:-

RYLA 2021

Possible Polio Fundraiser.

This year, COVID has made planning and running the annual Polio Movie Event much more challenging than usual! There will be issues in some locations but, with appropriate measures, such as masks, sanitiser and sensible seating arrangements, it is possible for events to go ahead in most areas.

This year’s movie is I Am Woman. It’s the story of Australian singer/songwriter, Helen Reddy, who shot to global stardom in the seventies. While set in the US, the movie is a local production. Tilda Cobham-Hervey is sensational in the lead role.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.

Editors Humour.

A priest decided to do something a little different. He said 'Today, in church, I am going to say a single word and you are going to help me preach. Whatever single word I say, I want you to sing whatever hymn that comes to your mind. The pastor shouted out, ‘ CROSS’ and immediately the congregation started singing in unison, 'THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.' The pastor hollered out 'GRACE.' The congregation began to sing 'AMAZING GRACE, how sweet the sound’. The pastor said 'POWER.' The congregation sang 'THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD.' The Pastor said 'SEX'. The congregation fell into total silence. Everyone was in shock. They all nervously began to look around at each other afraid to say anything. Then all of a sudden from way back of the church, a little old 87-year-old grandmother stood up and began to sing 'MEMORIES’.

Adam and Eve

A little girl asked her father, "How did the human race start?"

The father answered, "God made Adam and Eve and they had children, and so all mankind was made."

Two days later the girl asked her mother the same question.

The mother answered, "Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved."

The confused girl returned to her father and said, "Dad, how is it possible that you told me the human race was created by God, and Mom said they developed from monkeys?"

The father answered, "Well, dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family and your mother told you about hers."
