President Jess's Message.

Bonjour à tous  (French for hello everyone)

We had our Mayor Nigel Bowen talk to us this week. He gave us some insight into the processes the Council is going through at the moment with strategic planning, some of the challenges they are facing over the coming years and some of the projects they looking at. I learnt some new things and I was relieved to hear I will have a final resting place and it won’t be eroded away before I get there! Haha!

Don’t forget to let me know your “Worst Jobs”  and also a “Fun Fact” or something the club wouldn’t know about you. You can email me, or let me know at Rotary, or give me a call, or text.

We had some great news that our District Grant Applications have been approved 😊
  • First was our Teacher in Nepal through Classroom in the Clouds (have a look at their page on Facebook) TGHS is also contributing $1000 towards this project.
  • The second project was Dictionaries in Schools with Timaru North, Waimate, Temuka-Geraldine Clubs.
  • Finally our own Julie Dockrill’s Maternal Health Project over in Nepal, a joint application with Waimate.

Thought of the week is from the Dalai Lama, “Happiness is not something readymade.  It comes from your own actions.“

Have a great weekend 😊
Jess

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

Kindling Chopping Sat 5th September.

You are invited to come to a kindling woodworking bee on Saturday 5th September, starting at 9 am and finish at 12 noon.  The location is a shed (the sign above the sliding door is 'STORE 2) on LHS of Hayes St (when coming from wharf end).
We have boxes of wood to cut into kindling. We need people with tomahawks and some people to stack boxes with the cut kindling.
Regards
Tony Henderson

Italian MaMa

Mrs. Ravioli came to visit her son Anthony for dinner. He lives with a female roommate, Maria.

During the course of the meal, his mother couldn't help but notice how pretty Anthony's roommate was.

Over the course of the evening, she started to wonder if there was more between Anthony and his roommate than met the eye.

Reading his mom's thoughts, Anthony volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Maria and I are just roommates.''

About a week later, Maria came to Anthony saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the silver sugar bowl.

You don't suppose she took it, do you?"

"Well, I doubt it, but I'll email her, just to be sure."

Dear MaMa, I'm not saying that you "did" take the sugar bowl from my house; I'm not saying that you "did not" take it. But the fact remains that it has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.

Your Loving Son, Anthony.

Several days later, Anthony received a response email from his MaMa which read:

Dear son, I'm not saying that you "do" sleep with Maria, and I'm not saying that you "do not" sleep with her.

But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her OWN bed, she would have found the sugar bowl by now.

Your Loving MaMa
