Immediate Past President Andrea's Message.
Tuesday nights meeting was a learning experience for me. I never knew how much a JP did.
WOW, that takes volunteer work to a whole nother level. I was amazed about all the court duties etc.
Didn't Jess do well?
To be put into that situation and shine just shows us how well we will be lead next Rotary Year.
I wish Bev. a speedy recovery so I can go back to being a quiet mouse in the corner (Maybe)
Have a fun weekend everyone enjoy the sunshine.
Andrea

Judith Johnson JP
Judith Johnson gave a most interesting talk about the role of being a Justice of the Peace. Judith has held this important role for 40 years. She was appointed a JP in 1977 and since 1980 she has also been a sworn Judicial Officer of the Timaru District Court. I had no idea of the power of these roles and of the decisions Judith has to make. Her talk was sprinkled with lively anecdotes of some of the lighter moments of her role as well as comprehensive coverage of those less so. All of this work is voluntary and offenders can access this course of action completely free of charge.
Judith can often be found at the Timaru District Library on Saturday from 10.00am until 12.00pm (to witness signatures & authenticate documents which otherwise would have to be taken to a lawyer (at a cost).
What a wonderful service!

Membership.
At the 'Membership & Social Committee' meeting last Sunday it was highlighted that (in an attempt to introduce potential members to Rotary) all members should be looking at upcoming speakers to see if any of them would be of interest to someone they know (and if so) invite them along to hear that speaker.
Jim Garden recently received fourteen letters from room 7 of South School on receiving their new dictionaries. Click here to read ...

Gilly's Sergeant Joke.
At last Tuesday's tea meeting 'Sergeant Gilly' attempted to read us out a joke (but as she knew what she was about to read she had problems finishing it and Cheryl had to step in and read it), here it is for those who failed to hear it all:-
A pastor entered his donkey in a race and it won. The pastor was so pleased with the donkey that he entered in another race and it won again. The local newspaper read ‘ Pastor’s ass out front’
The bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the pastor not to enter his donkey in another race. The next day the local newspaper headline read “Bishop scratches pastor’s ass”
This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the pastor to get rid of the donkey. The pastor decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent. The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day ‘Nun has best ass in town’
The bishop fainted. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for $10. The next day the paper read ‘Nun announces her ass is wild and free’
The bishop was buried the next day! The moral of the story: “ Being concerned about public opinion can bring you much grief and misery and even shorten your life. So be yourself and enjoy life. You’ll be a lot happier and live longer”
