The Hot Dog Caravan is still resident at Fraser Park and has completed four Saturdays (including this weekend) serving the punters attending the Heartland Rugby championship.
A continued huge thanks to Jess, Jenny, Basil, John R, Jim, Andrea, Lynette and Bev for their expertise and time with the HDV at Fraser Park during the Heartland Games.
I have to say, I was concerned that we would miss the Sri Lankan ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE team, however we shared a Buffet meal with the team at Ceylon 85 at 88 Evans Street in Ashbury, Timaru, on the 30thof September, there were 6 in the team plus Christchurch Sunrise Rotarian Gary Barber doing the driving and organising of the group. A sincere thank you to Adriaan and Bev Slooten, Robin Peterson, Tony Henderson, John and Viki Rushton and Lynette and Lionel Wilson who shared the Kai with the Team. Some of the team even got to see the little Blue Penguins on Caroline Bay as well!!
An extra event via Campbell Ross has come our way (The Coastal Run) where we are acting as helpers and Marshall’s for this current weekend (Friday evening and Saturday Morning as well) extra $$ for the club coffers.
At present we are interviewing for the Science and Technology Forum a very BIG thank you to Bev Slooten for ensuring we have potential students who could attend this Forum in Auckland in January 2026. We have yet to hear from the organisers who they have accepted for the forum yet.
As I have mentioned, we now have a template for our new Constitution and other supporting documents that are required by the new Incorporated Societies Act of 2022.
All active members have received a draft club Constitution along with the required Notice of the Special General Meeting set down for Tuesday 28th October.
The new Act requires us to provide 20 Working days’ notice of the Special General Meeting.
The actual constitution requires us to place our club’s name, the address of the club, the New Zealand Business Number, the Incorporated Societies number and the contact person for the club (normally the club secretary), please don’t put an apology for this SGM as we need in excess of 50% of our active Rotarians present at this meeting on the 28th.
Some of our Honorary members attended an informal chat regarding the upcoming Centennial of our club in late 2027.
The evening was to obtain an idea from honorary members (as they are our connection to the past) as to what they envisage should happen at our Centennial celebration in November 2027?
I have to say I was a little disappointed at the number of Honorary members who came along, however we will proceed with what we have to gather together a group to plan this significant event.
We all enjoyed the Kindling morning organised by Tony Henderson at the Woodshed on Hayes Street. Thanks to Tony Henderson, Jim Garden, Ashley Milliken, Stephen Don, Lynette Wilson, Bruce Borrell, Bruce Fraser, Bev Slooten, Dick Johnston, Pearl (Jim’s Granddaughter), Mary Jane Garden (Jim’s Daughter), Dave Darling, Hassan, and Lionel Wilson (on BBQ).
On Wednesday, Family Works put on a morning tea for the Wood Group for all of the good work they do for people in need.

RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Applications are out for both Christchurch and Queenstown events, see Secretary Lynette Wilson for details, if you have a potential attendee for either course? Christchurch age group is 18 to 25 and Queenstown age group is 20 to 30.
The next Rotary club of Timaru Charitable Trust meeting is scheduled for the 28th of October at 8pm at our home.

At our Rotary club meeting this coming Tuesday – 14th October Ari Jan a Refugee Settlement Case Worker, Ari works for Refugee Settlement Services an arm of PSSC.
Jim Garden will be the speaker host for Ari.
