President Hugh's Message.

BOO ! !   (Ghost for Hello)

Cannot be outdone by IPP Jess with her multilingual greetings. Next week look forward to hello, in Fred Dag.

JP to me is a judicial officer but Tuesday last I became familiar with yet another language.  I knew little about Juice Products or JP for short. Located at Washdyke, it is an award winner, at the recent Chamber of Commerce BEA Awards. They produce vegetable and fruit juice concentrates. Taking advantage of South Canterbury’s fertile land and ability to produce quality crops JP-NZ is a leading processor of raw carrots into high-quality carrot juice concentrates. Now owned by Sumitomo one of Japan’s major trading and investment enterprises the factory remains at Washdyke and exports to countries in Asia, North America and Australia.

Westport Flood Relief.

The following email has been received by all District 9980 Clubs from DG Nick Woods.

As you will be aware (unless you're based internationally) Westport on the West Coast of the South Island has been hit hard by flooding over the weekend, as part of District 9970 our next-door neighbour, and soon to be fellow D9999 Rotarians.
Westport Rotarians have been busy assisting in the cleanup and recovery effort.

Attached is the mission brief and outline of what has been happening to date from PDG Gary Hopkinson (click here to read).

Timaru Club members please contact Lynette Wilson directly if you have the skills and the time to assist.
If you are able to assist financially then also please contact Lynette to see what is needed most.

It's early days, so please keep those in Westport in your thoughts over the coming weeks and months ahead.

Club Activity & Project Photos.

We are preparing to update the photos on our Clubrunner website & bulletin.
Can any member who has photos that they think would be suitable to show the club in action (highlighting what we do in the community or make donations to) please email them to John Barton (jrcbarton@gmail.com).
Photos need to be of a style that can be edited into a rectangular shape (like the 'Y-Drive' photo above).

Pumpkins For Polio.

The following refers to the polio competition DG Nick Woods has mentioned in his newsletter that all members will have received last Sunday (there are links in it to 'Tips & Tricks To Growing A Giant Pumpkin').

'Pumpkins for Polio' is what Nick hopes will be a  fun way for our members to raise funds and awareness of our continued fight to eradicate Polio.

Attached you will find posters and information sheets to help sell this to your clubs, you are welcome to have others (non-members) take part if it might help get them involved in Rotary and supporting this cause, provided they can raise the funds to support their pumpkin.

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.
Stephen

Editors Humour.

A scientist who made contact with aliens said,
“They’re like us—all they keep saying is ‘Err. Err.’”
“Why should that mean they are like us?” his colleague replied.
“To err is human.”

In the foyer of a church, a young boy was looking at a plaque with the names of men and women who had died in various wars.
He asked the pastor, “Who are these people?”
The pastor said, “Those are members from our church who died in service.”
The boy asked, “The early service or the second service?”

Six-year-old Ned's mother was looking through an old family Bible when an oak leaf fell out.
Ned said, "I guess that must be Adam's shorts."

Jenny: I can tell if someone is lying just by looking at him.
Penny: Really?
Jenny: Yep. I can tell if he is standing too.
