Thought for the week

THANK YOU KING STREET MOTORS
Thanks to King Street Motors for carrying out a Warrant of Fitness inspection of the Hot Dog Caravan at no cost to the Club, and then carrying out some maintenance work, again at no cost to the Club. What great support of our efforts for the community.
Members might like to return the favour by supporting King Street Motors; you'll find them at 143 King Street.

President Jess's Message.
Namaste (Nepalese for hello)
Well, hope everyone has managed to get through the roller coaster weather this week!
We had Stuart Ross talk this week about Policing the Roads over his career with the MOT/NZ Police. Stuart is an old classmate of Bruce B’s and it was great to hear of the shenanigans they used to get up to when they were younger! (what is said at the Presidents table will stay there, haha!) Stuart brought along some of the hub-odometers that had been tampered with, very interesting to see the lengths people would go to dodge a ticket!

Followed by a Directors Meeting for the Board at Lynette & Lionel's home (166B North St).

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.
RAFFLE PRIZES
For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.
To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.
When it's your turn to provide the prize:
Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.
26th January Meeting Guest Speaker Stuart Ross.
As mentioned in Jess's blurb Stuart spoke of the lengths people are willing to go to to save running costs by stopping the hubomoters working, on the one photographed a hole had been drilled in the back and a drawing pin (LHS in photo) placed in the hole to lock the internals (thus reading was locked at a specific number). Officers were aware of this happening and often felt around the back to see if there had been any tampering (but by using the drawing pin with the flat head it was very hard to feel its presents).
Volunteers Required For St John “Heart of Gold” Annual Appeal.
Please check your diaries and if you are able, mark it down for a spot on the roster.
When: Friday 9th April, 9 am – 6 pm
Where: New World Supermarket, Timaru
We will be compiling a roster closer to the date, but in the interim, if you notify me of your intention to be involved and your preferred time, it would be very much appreciated.

Pumpkins For Polio.
'Pumpkins for Polio' is what I hope will be a fun way for our members to raise funds and awareness of our continued fight to eradicate Polio.
Attached you will find posters and information sheets to help sell this to your clubs, you are welcome to have others (non-members) take part if it might help get them involved in Rotary and supporting this cause, provided they can raise the funds to support their pumpkin.
