President Jess's Message.

Malo e lelei (hello in Tongan)

We had a real treat this week, Jonathan and Florence Curr joined us, and Jonathan spoke on his career over the last 20 years.  Not only is Jonathan our Roger’s son, but he is also the current NZ High Commissioner to Fiji. It was fascinating learning about Jonathan and Florence’s journey thus far.  The stories Jonathan shared of the couple's experience during their travels, particularly of the conflict times over in the Middle East were captivating and during dinner, I was able to hear about Florence’s volunteer work and all the work she does behind the scenes for Jonathan, what a great team!  Thank you for taking time out of your holiday to pop into the club!

Upcoming St. Johns Visit.

On our visit to St John's new facility on Tuesday 20th April Gordon Handy (St John SI Regional Trust Board Chair & Project lead for the new build & committee member) and Darryn Grigsby (South Canterbury Operational Territory Manager) will be our tour guides for a private tour.
Tour starts at 5:30 PM - entry through the car park in Jackson St.
(with a return to TTCC for a meal at 6:15 PM).

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

Julie Dockrill - Champion of Health.

CONGRATULATIONS

Julie Dockrill has been awarded the 'Champion of Health' award from Rotary International.
This project was a great collaboration between Rotary Clubs and talented midwives, and as a result, they have changed the lives of thousands of Mongolians, and significantly improved morbidity rates in the country.
There were over 100 applicants worldwide for the award.  Julie has taken one of the top 6 spots for recognition.

Shelter Box Quiz Night 6th May.

Get out your diaries and block off the evening of the 6th of May (Thursday), I will be organising a quiz night at Bay Hill Brewery Bar (Monteith’s) to raise money for Shelter Box.
Details to follow.
If you had any contacts who I might be able to convince into donating some prizes or if there is a business that would be in a position so sponsor some vouchers or gifts etc, please let me know 😊 and of course start thinking of who you want on your team 😉.
Jess

Our club has ordered 1 box (of 12) and any member who wishes to purchase a copy @ $39.95 should contact Lionel.

Pumpkins For Polio.

'Pumpkins for Polio' is what I hope will be a  fun way for our members to raise funds and awareness of our continued fight to eradicate Polio.

Attached you will find posters and information sheets to help sell this to your clubs, you are welcome to have others (non-members) take part if it might help get them involved in Rotary and supporting this cause, provided they can raise the funds to support their pumpkin.

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.
Stephen

Jean-Paul Sartre is sitting at a French cafe, revising his draft of Being and Nothingness. He says to the waitress, “I’d like a cup of coffee, please, with no cream.”

The waitress replies, “I’m sorry, Monsieur, but we’re out of cream. How about with no milk?”
