Our deepest sympathy goes to Emma and Andy and family with the passing of Emma’s Mum on 13 June. You are in our thoughts.
The Rotary Science and Technology Forum held last January in Auckland was an eye-opening, thought-provoking and networking opportunity for our 2 speakers, Dhru and Josh. These year 13 students excelled at this forum and are still revelling in the opportunity that our Club provided them. They reassured me last night that they would definitely speak out and strongly urge the Year 12 students to apply if science is a career option. These 2 intelligent and personable young men were amazed by the course content and still managed to be wowed by the extent of science options that they were unfamiliar with.
Dhru Shah, Roncalli, is heading for the medical field and would like to become a surgeon eventually. Josh Earnshaw, TBHS, is very interested in aeronautics and his dream is to work for Rocket Lab.
Josh is the 3rd Timaru student to be accepted into the advisory programme for the following year’s attendees in 2021. An advisor is an assistant to the organisers and programme planners to help make the operation run smoothly. Josh remarked that he’s hoping to be able to attend the lectures as well!
We learnt the Boolean is a simplified form of algebra. Most, if not all of us are still nonplussed!
It is a case of watch this space with these 2 high flyers.
The Board and Club members send their warmest wishes and heartiest congratulations to Emma and Andy for their wedding day this weekend. We will all have a toast to you.
Don’t forget a FINE at Changeover has to be the FOLDING variety. Let’s KICK Off into 2020-21 in our sporting gear. Robyn and Stephen have kindly offered to be on the front desk for Change Over.
Stay safe, stay warm.
