Thought for the week
If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right - Henry Ford.
THANK YOU KING STREET MOTORS
Thanks to King Street Motors for carrying out a Warrant of Fitness inspection of the Hot Dog Caravan at no cost to the Club, and then carrying out some maintenance work, again at no cost to the Club. What great support of our efforts for the community.
Members might like to return the favour by supporting King Street Motors; you'll find them at 143 King Street.

President Jess's Message.
Aarrlone maingalarpar (Burmese for Hello Everyone)
Tuesday we had Nigel Davenport from 'Venture Timaru' along as our guest speaker. It was really great to hear about the work the Venture Timaru team does and learn of the initiatives they are planning/implementing around the town.
Nigel is correct, we are so lucky to live where we live! I particularly enjoyed the facts he talked about and the way they gather the data from bank transactions. They certainly do a wonderful job of promoting our region and I really hope he can get the “MyNextMove” initiative through into schools to expose the younger pupils to the workforce to help with their subject choices later on.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.
RAFFLE PRIZES
For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.
To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.
When it's your turn to provide the prize:
Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.
Riverstone Kitchen Lunch 28th February.
The Social Committee has made the reservation for the 28 Feb (at 1.00 pm).
There are two menus to choose from (click here to view the $40 & here for the $55).
Riverstone Kitchen has explained that it would not be a problem catering for both menus as long as they know a week beforehand. We would be seated according to our menu option, maybe in tables of 10 still with the group at large and in our own room off to the side.
Members wishing to attend please register your attendance with me, inc. numbers (and which menu).
Registrations will close on Friday 19th February for catering purposes.

Visit To Ashburton Rotary Club Visit - 23rd March.
As mentioned above the date is Tuesday 23rd March.
We will need numbers attending (with any dietary matters) to Ashburton by Friday 19th March lunchtime (12 Noon).
We can do this on our normal sheet, we just need engagement by all club members so they can apologise on the sheet by that Friday at noon.
We also need members to advise me if they can take a car and how many they can take as passengers.
I suggest we meet in the T & C car park at 4.45 pm to allocate seats on the 23rd of March.
Cheers,
Lionel

The club has received a request from the Salvation Army to assist with collectors for their 'Red Shield Street Appeal' on the week of 10th - 15th May.
The board has decided we will not as a club commit to this but if any member wishes to assist by collecting (as an individual) outside either Countdown Victoria St, Countdown Church St, Northtown Mall or Timaru New World they should contact Raewyn on 027 511 3227 or email Raewyn.butler@salvationarmy.org.nz.
Volunteers Required For St John “Heart of Gold” Annual Appeal.
Please check your diaries and if you are able, mark it down for a spot on the roster.
When: Friday 9th April, 9 am – 6 pm
Where: New World Supermarket, Timaru
We will be compiling a roster closer to the date, but in the interim, if you notify me of your intention to be involved and your preferred time, it would be very much appreciated.

Pumpkins For Polio.
'Pumpkins for Polio' is what I hope will be a fun way for our members to raise funds and awareness of our continued fight to eradicate Polio.
Attached you will find posters and information sheets to help sell this to your clubs, you are welcome to have others (non-members) take part if it might help get them involved in Rotary and supporting this cause, provided they can raise the funds to support their pumpkin.
Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.

Editors Humour.
Have a laugh!
I changed my car horn to sound like gunshots. People get out of the way much faster now.
I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes 5 years in a row.
I decided to change calling the bathroom “the John” and renamed it “the Jim.” I feel so much better saying I went to “the Jim” this morning.
Old age is coming at a really bad time.
When I was a child I thought “Nap Time” was a punishment. Now, as a grownup, it feels like a small vacation.
Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet.
At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering why I am there.
