President Jess's Message.

Ni sa bula vinaka, (Fijian this week)

We were privileged to have Rebecca Aitchison talk to us about her role within the NZ Police as an interviewer, primarily of children between the ages for 4-17 (not only limited to children).  Rebecca showed us an example of the techniques used during the evidential interview process with a video she had created with her own children (which was adorable!)  There are very specific protocols/structures that must occur during the interview process.

It must be a very difficult role to have, especially when the children have been involved in an abusive event.  Rebecca is one of two interviewers based in Timaru who cover the Waimate to Rakaia area, and unfortunately, there is no shortage of work for them.

It was pleasing to hear that the NZ Police enforce mandatory counselling for its staff on a regular basis, I would imagine some of the jobs they attend must play on their minds! They do such fantastic work and I think sometimes we forget the horrific things our Police must deal with.

Reminder to pay your Rotary and your Timaru Town and Country Club Memberships.

You should have received an email with our club details and account number.  If you have not had an email, please let me or Jenny know.

Closing thought this week: " It's not about perfect, it's about effort. When you bring that effort every single day that's where transformation happens and that's how change occurs"

Have a great weekend!
🙂 Jess

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

The Best Irish Joke Ever?

Two men were sitting next to each other at Murphy's Pub in London. After a while, one bloke looks at the other and says, I can't help but think, from listening to you, that you're from Ireland.

The other bloke responds proudly, Yes, that I am!

The first one says, So am I! And where about from Ireland might you be?

The other bloke answers, I'm from Dublin, I am.

The first one responds, So am I!

Mother Mary and begora. And what street did you live on in Dublin?

The other bloke says, A lovely little area it was. I lived on McCleary Street in the old central part of town.

The first one says, Faith and it's a small world. So did I! So did I! And to what school would you have been going?

The other bloke answers, Well now, I went to St. Marys, of course.

The first one gets really excited and says, And so did I. Tell me, what year did you graduate?

The other bloke answers, Well, now, let's see. I graduated in 1964.

The first one exclaims The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same place tonight. Can you believe it, I graduated from St. Marys in 1964 my own self!

About this time, Vicky walks up to the bar, sits down and orders a drink.

Brian, the barman, walks over to Vicky, shaking his head and mutters, It's going to be a long night tonight.

Vicky asks, Why do you say that, Brian?

The Murphy twins are drunk again.
