President Cheryl's Message.

Hi everyone

If you didn’t attend or zoom on Tuesday night you missed a very informative talk from Ingrid Davies-Martin from the Library. I feel very embarrassed that as a member, I haven’t utilised the facility for years. Wow - an outstanding example of moving with the times, and changing to work with the latest technology. I loved the robot, can I have it as a pet? I’ll most certainly be signing up for the electronic service. Next week, via zoom (see below) our guest speaker will be Leo Skea, returning to talk about another aspect of his life in Zimbabwe.

It was an honour on Tuesday to recognise two significant donations by our Charitable Trust. $30,000 to CPlay (mix of Trust and Bill Mackay bequest funds) and $3000 for the Rotary Community Health Unit in Nepal. A BRAVO to Bev as Chair and her team.

Yours aye
Cheryl

Zooming For The Next Few Weeks

As announced at last Tuesday's meeting. We will not be having any face to face meetings for a while. Our attendance is down to between 25 and 30%, with increasing numbers choosing zoom. Each week different people are isolating as close contacts, because they themselves have tested positive, or because they are choosing to manage the threat by isolating themselves from most or all community interaction, and then there are those who are generally very unwell.

I appreciate there are pockets of you who have little or no experience in using zoom. Let me know if you would like a 1:1 lesson - it gets easier the more you use it. I always think the fun bit is the pets who pop up, kids who wave as they pass by or the backdrop scenery some use. You are free to invite your household members to listen to the speaker of course, just as you can invite them to a physical meeting.

The meeting will start at 6.30 after you’ve had a chance to have dinner, we will commence with the guest speaker followed by club business. See below for the link. Otherwise, it is business as usual. The different committees need to meet as and when, either at someone’s place, a cafe, or via zoom. We need to perhaps find ways to have catch ups in person, at a cafe, or dinner out or something. Suggestions welcome. And, as is traditional, we will be having a changeover dinner. More about that later.

Zooming isn’t the Board’s preferred meeting forum for the Club but its become increasingly obvious this is the most practical way to manage the current situation, hopefully for the short term. We can but give it a go.

See you on the screen next week
Cheryl

Editors Humour.

Conversation between a pharmacist and a female customer:

Woman: "I need to buy some arsenic."

Pharmacist:" Why do you need arsenic?"

Woman: "I need arsenic because I want to kill my husband."

Pharmacist: "WHAT?"

Woman: "You heard me! I want to kill my husband!"

Pharmacist: "Why on earth would you want to do that?"

Woman: "Because he's having an affair with YOUR wife!!!"

Pharmacist: "Well why didn't you tell me you had a prescription?"

A police officer in a small town stopped a driver speeding down the main street. The driver said he could explain why he was speeding, but the police officer said he was going to put him in jail until the Chief got back, but lucky for the driver that the chief will be in a good mood because he is at his daughter's wedding. The driver said, "Don't count on it. I'm the groom."

The old man was sitting on the examining table in the doctor’s office having his hearing checked. The doctor poked his light scope in the old man’s ear and said, “Hey, you have a suppository in your ear!”
“Rats,” said the old man. “Now I know where my hearing aid went.
