President Peter's Message
 
"Rotary around the World"
Thanks to Lionel and John who co-produced a informative presentation which was very thought provoking and at times quite emotional. We may well revisit some of the projects shown. 
 
 Guest Speaker
Jock Anderson is the acting Editor of the Timaru Herald, his main role is working with reporters to improve news content.
Jock and his partner moved to Timaru in December 2015, built a new house and moved into it in January 2017.
 
Jock began life of 50 years in journalism as a cadet reporter at the Otago Daily Times in February 1965 where he worked for five years. Since then he worked for eighteen years with the NZ Truth newspaper in Wellington and Christchurch and may have a few juicy tales to tell!
He had ten years running his own Community newspaper in Canterbury followed by thirteen years with the National Business Review in Auckland including a stint as investigations editor and chief reporter.
 
Between 1992 and 1996 he was a part time tutor at the Aoraki Polytechnic newspaper journalism course.
He tells me  he has views on most things and is a regular commentator on Radio New Zealand and NewstalkZB.
Looking forward to an entertaining evening.

This is a day visit to Dunedin to learn more about Rotary and where it is headed. 
This day is open to all member's and will be a well worthwhile day.
Let's get as many people there as we can. 
Please contact Andrea (684 9274 or (0272) 736 454) to advise her if you are interested, so we can organise transport down.
 
CONFERENCE in Dunedin 
May 5th 6th and 7th.
 
This will be a great conference to attend lots of great inspirational speakers.
A fun way to get the fellowship with other rotarians from around our District.
 
We NEED to book accommodation now as it's a big weekend in Dunedin.
 
The theme of the Saturday Night Function is yet to be announced as Bruce is keeping this secret for now. 
Again lets gets many people there and show our District how well Timaru can have Fun.

Centennial Fund Proposal
 
Object:

Set aside funds over the next ten years to mark the 100th Centennial Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Timaru and make a lasting gift to the people of this community who we have supported and who have supported this club.

Fund target amount:

$100,000 would be a meaningful figure equating to $1,000 for every year the club has been in existence.

Where will the funds come from:

If the gift is of a charitable nature, $5,000 per annum from the Charitable Trust matched by a special fundraising activity each year for the remaining $5,000.

Type of gift:

That can be decided upon during the last 5 year period.

The above will be discussed at the 3rd April tea meeting & a motion moved to allow (if passed) planning to be started.
