Thought for the week
Work is the curse of the drinking classes. - Oscar Wilde
THANK YOU KING STREET MOTORS
Thanks to King Street Motors for carrying out a Warrant of Fitness inspection of the Hot Dog Caravan at no cost to the Club, and then carrying out some maintenance work, again at no cost to the Club. What great support of our efforts for the community.
Members might like to return the favour by supporting King Street Motors; you'll find them at 143 King Street.
(If you have any comments or questions, please contact the editor)
President Bev's Message.
Greetings
I wish to convey my thanks to Past President Andrea and President-Elect Jess for stepping in for me last week.
June 2020 seems like it's too long to wait for the National Bowel Screening Programme to be rolled out in Timaru.
In Timaru, this will be set up for those between 60-75 years. I wished it included those up to 85 years of age, hopefully, that will happen in the not too distant future.
The results of the Pilot Study in Waitemata do point to a dramatic reduction in mortality once the screening programme is operating
Research indicates so far that our genes, what we eat - preserved meats and those with preservatives get the thumbs down and the bacteria that live in our gut can determine our chances of getting bowel cancer.
It is interesting to note that Rotary in Australia has input in their National Screening Programme. I wonder if the same or similar could be done here in New Zealand in due course.
Next week we are celebrating our success with the HDV and Dictionary projects by presenting 'Certificates of Appreciation' to McCain Foods and Hilton Haulage. These companies are valuable connections for our Club which enable us to reach out as far as we do.
Unfortunately, representatives from Humphris Engineering and King Street Motors, who help with the upkeep and maintenance of the HDV are not able to join us.
Regards, Bev

Membership.
At the 'Membership & Social Committee' meeting last Sunday it was highlighted that (in an attempt to introduce potential members to Rotary) all members should be looking at upcoming speakers to see if any of them would be of interest to someone they know (and if so) invite them along to hear that speaker.
