This week, we enjoyed the company of Alice Sollis, A woman who has many hats, but the one she wore at our meeting on Tuesday, was her Age Concern-visiting Services Manager one, as she shared with us the many aspects of this position.
Alice had worked at ASB Bank for 27years, so this new position for her was a complete change and a challenge she is relishing.
The visiting service provides free companionship to clients through weekly visits, calls, and social outings with volunteers. Visitors offer social support, shared activities, and help establish community connections, often leading to lasting friendships and Alice recruits and screens volunteers, assesses older people who are referred, matching them with visitors. She also monitors how matches are going and addresses any issues that arise, along with providing ongoing training and support for visitors, and must provide regular reports to National office. If you know of anyone able to give a little time each week, Alice would love to hear from you.
On a social note, another bike trip took place on Tuesday, those that took part enjoyed the great weather, companionship whilst biking, and of course the lunch. Planning is already started for the next outing.
At our Club Board meeting held 13th February, it was agreed that New Member applications received from Gilly Oppenheim and Robin Peterson would proceed.
Have you registered for the Rotary D9999 conference in Christchurch on Saturday 20th April? It will be a good chance for a weekend away – come join us!! Early bird registrations are open now.
Our next meeting will be a club forum, and we will discuss ideas shared with us by Jeanette Borrell in her address to us late last year. We encourage all members to attend.
Looking forward to catching up with you all again on February 27th.
