President Lynette's Message

Hi everyone,

There was no meeting on Feb 6th, but there were still several members celebrating Waitangi Day with a leisurely meal together.
For those of us still working, it was a strange week, I had to keep reminding myself on Wednesday that it was not Monday, but at least the weekend came along quicker.

Have you registered for the Rotary D9999 conference in Christchurch on Saturday 20th April?
Lionel & I have completed our registrations already, it looks to be an interesting programme.  As the timing is 9am-3pm, we have booked accommodation for Friday and Saturday evening as well.  It will be a good chance for a weekend away – come join us!! Early bird registrations are open now.

We have received another lovely letter, via the Moyes Trust, from new parents who are most appreciative of the little book they have received from our “Books for Babies” project.  This project has been run by our club for several years now, and funding has been received for another year’s supply of books for distribution, which is great news.

On a social note, there is another bike trip planned for Tuesday 13th to Geraldine, if you have a bike, and are interested, (even if you don’t have a bike, you are welcome to join for the coffee/lunch) please contact Jenny Ensor for details.

We still have the opportunity to join members from the Timaru North Club for a tour and insight into the stories behind the creation of the new CPlay playground at Caroline Bay.  This will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, 15th February, Rose Fauth will share the insight behind stories that inspired the creation of many of the components of the playground and will be assisted by other members of the team.  Feel free to bring a picnic if you wish, or maybe cook a sausage on the new BBQ donated by our Club, or just come along and listen (or play)
Family is also welcome.

Looking forward to catching up with you all again on February 13th – Welcome Back!!

Lynette Wilson
President

JR McKenzie Trust Update

Hi Everyone

I thought that you would like to know some details from the uniform grants paid out for the 2024 school year.

The application form was sent to 35 Rotary clubs from Motueka to Timaru including the West Coast. Applications were received from 18 clubs, one school and one support agency.
Grants were paid out towards the uniform costs for 536 children (2023 401 children, 2022 359 children).  This has assisted 315 families.
The basic grants were paid at the rate of $200 for primary school, $270 for intermediate school, $300 for secondary school and $470 for families. Some grants were for less than these amounts because the uniform cost was lower than the basic grant.
A total of $106,272 was paid out in grants.
Thank you for your contribution to this process.

Christine Arnold

MULTI CLUB BBQ & CPLAY INFORMATION EVENING

Thursday 15th February - Save the date!

Timaru North is arranging a special family evening at the new Caroline Bay Playground on Thursday, February 15th from 5:00-7:00pm.
This will be an informal opportunity to meet with some of the CPlay volunteers and for chairperson Owen Jackson (and TDC councillor) to personally express his gratitude to Rotary and individual members, for their generous contributions that helped make this wonderful new playground a reality for our community.

CPlay volunteer Roselyn Faulth has offered to provide guided tours during the evening, to explain the stories and inspiration behind the playground's design. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy together at the event.  The new BBQ has two cook tops and may be limited for our numbers. The TDC is ok if people bring their own.

We hope you can make it to celebrate and see firsthand the positive impact our Rotary support is having on local families.
If the weather unfavourable, Roselyn will give a talk at the Armadillos Restaurant as per a normal Timaru North Rotary night.
Evening Chair: Geoff Cloake

Hi Timaru Rotary Club,

I am emailing to thank you for the lovely Spot book we received for our newborn son Luka this week. It was an incredibly thoughtful and unexpected surprise to receive at Timaru Hospital.
This is a lovely initiative and we are most appreciative.

Thank you again!
