President Jess's Message.

Kumusta sa lahat (Filipino for hello everyone)

It’s been lovely to see Julie’s article popping up over social media and a great piece in the paper about the award she has received. Julie brought along the beautiful award for us to see in person. Congratulations again Julie! #superproud

Gail and Sharyn were along to chat to us about the progress of the YMCA’s ‘Y-Drive’ programme, as well as mention a few of the other areas they touch on at the Y. It was so lovely to hear first hand just how much the scholarships are helping our youth and the members of our community. The recipients have come from all walks of life – Migrants who have just arrived in town, pregnant ladies whose goal was to get their licence before the baby arrives! To older grandparents who unexpectedly must be the parent to their grandchildren and need to transport them from A to B. The money we gifted from the Moyes Trust last year has helped make a significant difference in these peoples lives.

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

McCains After Five Event.

Paul, Jess, Lynette & Bruce cooked McCain products for them to distribute to their guests.
It was a huge success with all parties working together.
The side effect was good PR for Rotary as well.

Shelter Box Quiz Night 6th May.

Get out your diaries and block off the evening of the 6th of May (Thursday), I will be organising a quiz night at Bay Hill Brewery Bar (Monteith’s) to raise money for Shelter Box.
Details to follow.
If you had any contacts who I might be able to convince into donating some prizes or if there is a business that would be in a position so sponsor some vouchers or gifts etc, please let me know 😊 and of course start thinking of who you want on your team 😉.
Jess

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.

Editors Humour.

Travelling through Otago, I stopped at an information centre to pick up a map. I found plenty of brochures but no maps. Then I spotted two employees and asked whether they had any.
“Sure,” said the first guy. “I’ll get you one.” As he walked to the back, the second guy explained, “We keep them in the storage room. If we leave them out on the counter, people just come in and take them.”
____________

Scene: A patient in a doctors medical exam room.
Dr: "How old are your kids?"
Patient: "Forty-four and 39 from my wife who passed away, and from my second wife, 15 and 13".
Dr: "That’s quite the age difference!"
Patient: "Well, the older ones didn’t give me any grandkids, so I made my own".
