The feedback from Waimate Rotarians after their recent visit was very generous. They complemented on us having an excellent venue and a great club atmosphere. I have been told to expect a reciprocal invitation early next year.

 

After recently meeting and hearing Sir Graeme Dingle talk on his life, it was wonderful to welcome Noeline Allan of "Kiwi Can" to talk to us, a truly inspirational speaker.

 

Last night Janet and I were guests at the annual Life Education Trust Mid and South Canterbury dinner. Don Braid, managing director of Mainfreight was the guest speaker.

 

On Tuesday we have the NRG members talking a little bit about themselves and their newest member, Kelsie Parish will be inducted.

 

 

"NRG" stands for "Next Rotary Generation". Our NRG members are under the umbrella of and affiliated to the Rotary Club of Timaru. Unlike our club members who meet weekly and usually have a speaker the NRG Timaru members meet on the last Tuesday of each month over a drink, at a different venue each time, to discuss projects.

 

This format appeals to younger members aged between 25 and 42, who are time poor, but who want to continue the good work that Rotary does.

 

So far, this newly formed group has helped as ushers at the Horror Maze, have sold firewood, have helped us with our kindling project for the elderly and families in need and have also assisted with our hot dog caravan.

 

Invercargill, Queenstown and Dunedin also have NRG clubs which give members a club format that fits in with their way of working and living, and allows members who choose not to be involved in regular weekly meetings and dinners to join in the family of Rotary clubs and enjoy the fellowship and service opportunities we all enjoy as Rotarians.
