President Bev's Message.

Greetings,

This week we heard of the work completed by Jess, Tony, Keryn Ward and 9 others for Project Starfish in Cambodia. These volunteers were there from 4-20 December 2019 to help with the remodelling of the drying room, updating the toilet and shower rooms for the senior boys of this orphanage. There was some spare funding which was channelled towards updating the senior girl's toilet and shower rooms, shelving for the school library and resource materials. In the surrounding countryside, the Government has slowly turned the economy from the dangerous and war-like opium trade to growing coffee, cashews, bananas and mangoes.

They were treated to a cultural immersion tour prior to going into camp. The sunrise at Angkor Wat was stunning. Many of the ancient statues were beheaded during the conflicts however there were statues untouched in various part of that tour. Lara Croft – Tomb Raider was filmed in a part of the Angkor Wat site. A "Yes" For Jess.
Jess is working hard on the formation of her committees for 2020-2021.
If Jess approaches you for a role and you think it is out of your comfort zone, I urge you to think quietly on the matter and consider who, in our Club, would you go to for help/suggestions in this role. We have a wealth of knowledge in our Club and one of the nicest things is being asked to share it.

You are doing well Jess.

Thanks, Bev.

The board is looking at getting some banners made for the club (to be presented to visitors of other clubs when they visit our club & also for our members to present when they visit other clubs).

If anyone has a copy (either a banner or a photo) of the last banners we had, know when we last had made & from where ordered or any other information to help us ordering these new ones can they please contact Secretary Lionel @ 'LWilsonfamily@xtra.co.nz' or '0272 279 785'.

RYE Student Yannick Miller

Our RYE Student Yannick Miller has arrived safely in his host country of Switzerland.   He had a good trip overseas via LA, where he had a 3-day stopover with the other outbound NZ RYE Students.  Yannick will be based in Zurich for his yearlong exchange.  He is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Zurich.   Yannick is currently attending his language camp with about 26 other students.  He is really enjoying the German (he already has a very good understanding of the language) but is finding the Swiss-German a little tricky at this stage.
(Note from Jess Hewitson, Yannick’s Host Counsellor)

'LEXOPHILE' - A Play On Words.

Examples:-

Did you hear the one about the rooster who thought he was a matador? It was a cock and bull story.

The drunk tripped and dropped his bottle of Johnnie Walker. He couldn’t hold his liquor.

If you play Scrabble with alphabet soup letters, you might have to eat your words.

His every pronouncement was on the straight and narrow because he was the ruler.
