Lorri Lennon, after 44 years away from Timaru gave us a fascinating insight into life as a working expat in Australia, Bahrain and South Africa. During that time she had a grandstand seat observing the first Gulf war from a position she described as "A bit too close for comfort" She also had a close up look at South Africa during the Nelson Mandela era.
ASHBURTON ROTARY CLUB VISIT- CHANGE OF DATE.
The American Ambassador has had to re-schedule his visit to Wednesday 28th March. The evening will be held at the Aviation Museum on Seafield Road. The Spit Roast Company will be doing the catering. Cost is $30 per person.

Horror Maze 2018.
Once again we have been asked for volunteers to help out with security "within" the maze (yes, this year some of us will actually be "in the maze" itself) and manning the front gate.
Dates are: 16th/17th Feb, 24th Feb, 2nd/3rd March and 9th/10th March. Times 8.30pm-11.30pm and they are
asking for between 7-12 people on each date.

Foundation Committee Half Time Report
An application to the D9980 District for Funds for Phambi Rai – Teacher in Nepal Salary $2,000 from District grant, $1,000 from Timaru Girls High School, $1,000 from our Club and top up of $600 from Chris Jensen Burke, Funds received and a completed project, except new photos from Phambi.
An Application to the D9980 District for Funds to run the combined Rotary Clubs Dictionaries project by; Temuka- Geraldine, Timaru North, Waimate and our Rotary club. The application was for $4,000 and received by us in November. A request for 824 dictionaries was sent the Bill and Lorna Boyd charitable trust, our Club paid $7,828 and the Dictionaries were released to us a few days prior to Christmas and available to be picked up.
The Mongolian Midwife VTT is scheduled to Mongolia in May 2018 and has been signed off as a viable VTT by our District. Funding from Clubs in D9980 and elsewhere has been received by the District Foundation, including NZ$1,400 given by our club. Julie Dockrill will be able to share more specific detail as we proceed.
We are soon due to send our Foundation contributions to the District, this will need to be passed by Club directors and our Charitable trust too and then sent to our Rotary District committee.
The club raised just over $1,000 for foundation from the “Beach and BBQ” evening held at the Highfield Golf club on the 23rd January, a good night.
Thanks to the clubs Rotary Foundation committee members who go the extra mile for the Foundation: Shaun Anderson, Keith Bartholomew, Julie Dockrill Greg Sugrue and Malcolm Cone.
