Thought for the week

Nothing is impossible ...the word itself says I'm possible.

THANK YOU KING STREET MOTORS

Thanks to King Street Motors for carrying out a Warrant of Fitness inspection of the Hot Dog Caravan at no cost to the Club, and then carrying out some maintenance work, again at no cost to the Club.  What great support of our efforts for the community.

President-Elect Bev's Message.

Tuesday night saw a huge crowd as we welcomed the Ashburton club to our tea meeting.
It is always great to see them join in with us. The noise level showed how happy everyone was to meet and mingle.

Gordon Handy talked about the new Shuttle for St John's. A wonderful idea which will enable so many more people access health-related appointments in Christchurch.

It was with sadness we said goodbye to Olivia as she has gone home to be with her mother who is not well. We wish her the best and her mother a speedy recovery. I am amazed how we welcome shy quiet young people into the club from the 'Rotary Youth Exchange' and when they leave they are happy active individuals who are only too happy to join in with our activities.

It is also with sadness that we lost Wynne Raymond this week. One of our Alumni from a GSE in 1965. He was a great man who did a lot of work for our Community.

I'm off to another family wedding this weekend and yes it will be full of fun, laughter and love.

I hope everyone's weekend is the same.

Lynette & Lionel's Visit To Rotary Internationals HQ In Evanston.

We have received the following email & photos:-

Had an amazing day today, travelled by train out to Evanston and did a tour of Rotary Headquarters, saw John Hewko, didn’t get to see President Barry Rassin as he was in a meeting, but did get to visit his office (photo below).

District 9970 Christchurch Appeal.

We have received an email from our District Governor Andrew Hamilton which included a letter from District 9970 District Governor John Driscoll and the Presidents of the Riccarton, Ferrymead and Linwood/Woolston Rotary Clubs outlining the Christchurch Appeal which has been set up in the wake of the tragic shootings on March 15th and includes what has happened with the money donated so far & a bank account for those who wish to donate - read letter ....

Dunedin 19th May.

Members who are becoming 2019-20 directors and/or club officers will find the District 9980 'Rotary Know How' day very helpful, and well worth attending. The day is held in Dunedin at Logan Park High School on Sunday 19th May.  Support incoming President Bev by putting this date in your calendar, and joining the team for the day.

A Riddle To Solve.

The answer to the last riddle:-

Seven. (Take away the S!)

The word "what" is spelled with four letters (w, h, a, and t). The word "sometimes" is spelled with 9 letters (s,o,m,e,t,i,m,e, and s) etc.

Thinking caps on again and try to solve this weeks riddle:-

A magician promises that he can throw a ball as hard as he can and have it stop, change direction, and come back to him. He claims he can do it without the ball bouncing off of anything, being tied to anything or the use of magnets.
