 President Elect Bev's. Message .
 
On seeing our guest speaker, Sherpa Lhakpa [pronounced ‘luck fa’] dressed in national costume added a significance to the occasion of the presentation of the Paul Harris Fellow.
 
Marg Stocker was very deserving of this award for her humanitarian work with the Forgotten Sherpa Trust in Nepal. Sherpa Lhakpa is her contact in Nepal and Marg mentioned that it is because of him that they are able to do so much. I felt both pleasure and pride making this PHF presentation to Marg.
 
It is a busy weekend for us, Friday & Saturday evenings saw us supplying manpower for the Plunket Maize Maze at Studholme, Saturday morning firewood and Hot Dog Van spring cleaning, our humanitarian work for the community.
It is still that same feeling of pleasure and pride when I can help with these and other projects.
 
We look forward to Andrea’s return after her hiking adventures in the Akaroa area.

Helpers Required For The Studholme Maize Maze.
 
Louise from the Studholme Maize Maze has contacted us to see if we would be able to assist with some security of the maze over the next two weekends.
 
 3-4 members would be required on site from about 8.30 - 11.30 - approx. (for the following nights):-
 
Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd March.
Saturday 9th March.
 
If you are able to assist  on any night you can phone me (688 6325 - with answerphone) or email me (srdon@xnet.co.nz), I will also be mentioning about this at our tea meetings (& taking names).

How about, when Bev asks you to take on a task for the next Rotary year, you say “Yes, of course” unless you have a very good reason not to.

We asked Bev to take this important job on for the Club – for us. It’s a big ask, and Bev said “Yes”.

Now Bev is asking us to take on Club tasks during her Rotary Year. You’d be surprised how many people say “No”, or “Let me think about it”.

We all have a part to play in keeping the club ticking over nicely. If Bev asks us to do our bit it would be great if we said “Yes, of course” unless we really couldn’t do it.

 

 
Paul Harris Presentation to Margaret Stocker.
 
Photos show presentation by President Elect Bev Slooten of a 'Paul Harris Foundation' award to Non-Rotarian Margaret Stocker, in recognition of her ongoing commitment and support to the Sherpas of Nepal, in conjunction with the 'Forgotten Sherpas Trust', providing clean burning stoves, education and health improvements for the community.
 
Margaret was supported by Colleen and Russell Winnington, who are also members of the Trust and as passionate as Margaret about their efforts in Nepal.
Sherpa Lhakpa gave an interesting insight to his family and life in the mountains, showing the challenges encountered in every day living.
 
Olivia, our Swedish Rotary Youth Exchange student was intrigued to learn more from Lhakpa about his life and cultures.

A great evening of recognition - a well deserved PHF recipient - congratulations Margaret Stocker.
