President Andrea's Message.

Gold you just have to love GOLD.
Yes, I'm obsessed with the precious metal. From an early childhood experience of gold panning in Central through to the most valuable piece of gold I own - my grandmother's wedding ring which I wear every day.
Gold has the ability to make people do crazy things.
Our country's history owes a lot to gold, especially the South Island.
It was interesting to hear Nevis talk about his family's history with gold. I for one would love to travel that road and check out the gold fields.
It's an area of the country I haven't been in.

I'm away this week so please take it easy on Bev. She's doing an amazing job preparing for her year as President. I'm looking forward to working under her guidance.

Don't forget the 'Hot Dog Caravan Roster' the rugby season is already upon us. This is the time of the year when you can take the time to learn how the van works. So if you're a newbie or want to work when it's less hectic go into the roster in the web site and sign up for a session.

Enjoy the next two weeks.

RYDA - ROTARY YOUTH DRIVER AWARENESS
SBS CENTRE, MORGANS ROAD - TUESDAY 9 APRIL & WEDNESDAY 10 APRIL

NZ Police Blue Light Programme.

Last year we had Rob Coleman of Neighbourhood Support come to speak at a Club meeting. Through this work, he has become involved with the NZ Police and the setting up of a Blue Light Programme. This is a 6-week empowerment course for young people aimed at extending their minds and physical capabilities. Police staff run the 2 weekly sessions which are all different but do require perseverance, commitment and dedication from the participants.

The last day is an early start as they were required to run for 15 km along Lake Pukaki prior to cycling from Mt Cook Station to Caroline Bay.

The boys were then taken to have afternoon tea at the Caroline Bay Community Lounge.

The Moyes Trust gave a donation for the establishment of the Blue Light Programme in Timaru. The Rotary Club of Timaru was thanked by the Police, the participants and their parents.

Participants crossing the finishing line at Caroline Bay with their parents and caregivers ready to applaud their achievements.

A Riddle To Solve.

The answer to the last riddle:-
       A.  D. The sequence contains the first letter of every month, in order.

The word "what" is spelled with four letters (w, h, a, and t). The word "sometimes" is spelled with 9 letters (s,o,m,e,t,i,m,e, and s) etc.
