President Jess's Message.

Marhabaan jamieana (Arabic for hello everyone)

We had an entertaining night on Tuesday with Dave and his new wife Robyn getting to dress up in authentic clothing from the UAE. (Photos below) Sonia Sullivan joined us to talk about her job as a Flight Attendant with Emirates Airways and living over in the UAE. It was really interesting to hear of the growth the airline has had over the years and very interesting to hear about the 1st class areas and how those travellers pay for the whole flight. I really enjoyed the story of the passenger who wanted Caviar but didn’t actually like caviar – the life of the rich!

Back down to reality, we have 'Toot for Tucker' coming up on Monday 16th. Please let me know if you are able to help out with this. I can recall last year they didn’t have enough volunteers to get around the whole of Timaru so let’s help out (in our Rotary caps, tops and vests) and get as many bodies and cars as we can aye! - click for more information ...

We had some great news that the construction of the Bike Skills Park at Caroline Bay has begun this past week, I’m really happy that our Club has been able to help with this fabulous project.

Closing thought this week:  Life is like a movie: if you’re sad - it’s a drama, if you’re afraid – it’s a suspense, if you’re angry – it’s an action, when you look in the mirror – it’s a horror, now your smiling – that’s a comedy

Have a great weekend!
Jess

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

Not Received The Bulletin??

For some unexplainable reason members computers seem to decide to place the weekly bulletin in the 'Junk' ('Spam') folder of their emails from time to time - so if you do not receive the bulletin any week please check this folder (and I can almost guarantee 99% of the time you will find it there).
Each week after sending the bulletins out I check the 'Send History' in Clubrunner to verify any that get 'dropped' (not sent) and check the reason why (of the 79 odd bulletins that are sent out only between 0 & 2 are dropped).
Stephen (Editor).

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.
Stephen

This year’s movie is I Am Woman. It’s the story of Australian singer/songwriter, Helen Reddy, who shot to global stardom in the seventies. While set in the US, the movie is a local production. Tilda Cobham-Hervey is sensational in the lead role.

Helen Reddy passed away on Tuesday, 29th September in Los Angeles from Dementia.

Editors Humour.

Two priests decided to go to Hawaii on vacation. They were determined to make this a real vacation by not wearing anything that would identify them as clergy.

As soon as the plane landed they headed for a store and bought some really outrageous shorts, shirts, sandals, sunglasses, etc.

The next morning they went to the beach dressed in their tourist garb. They were sitting on beach chairs, enjoying a drink, the sunshine and the scenery when a drop dead gorgeous blonde in a topless bikini came walking straight towards them. They couldn't help but stare.

As the blonde passed them she smiled and said "Good Morning, Father,” “Good Morning, Father," nodding and addressing each of them individually, then she passed on by. They were both stunned. How in the world did she know they were priests? So the next day, they went back to the store and bought even more outrageous outfits. These were so loud you could hear them before you even saw them! Once again, in their new attire, they settled down in their chairs to enjoy the sunshine. After a little while, the same gorgeous blonde, wearing a different coloured topless bikini, taking her sweet time, came walking toward them. Again she nodded at each of them, and said: “Good morning, Father ,” “Good morning, Father," and started to walk away.

One of the priests couldn't stand it any longer and said, "Just a minute, young lady." "Yes, Father?" "We are priests and proud of it, but I have to know, how in the world do you know we are priests, dressed as we are?" She replied,

"Father, it's me,............ Sister Kathleen!"
