President Cheryl's Message

Hi everyone

It was great to hear from Arowhenua Whanau Services last week. They do an amazing job improving the health status of everyone. Well done. It’s not long to the end of a lot of things for the year including Rotary. As we count down it’s getting busy. the hot dog van is booked up, and 'Santa Paws' is booking fast. The Christmas Parade is almost upon us. All of these events still need helpers, not necessarily a physical demand so make sure you volunteer if you can. A great way to start your Christmas.

A number of our members are unwell for various reasons, we think of you at this time and pray you will recover or find comfort among family and friends as we head towards the holiday and festive season.

Yours aye
Cheryl

Duty Roster Changes

With the resignation of Chris Connor as Sergeant, the Duty Roster has been changed, and for the remainder of the Rotary year Sergeant has been added (with members being rostered on to being Sergeant).
To accommodate the additional duty type it has been necessary to re-do the roster, please, therefore, recheck the roster (if you have previously checked it and made decisions based on it).

2022 Christmas Parade - Sunday 4th December

Our club this year (along with the North Rotary Club, Timaru Host Lions Club, Timaru Suburbian Lions Club & Timaru Christmas Parade Trust) is again involved with organising the parade.
We require some help with Marshalling (you get to stand on a corner and watch the parade, whilst making sure the crowd don't get in the way of the floats), and if that doesn't sound like something you can manage, we also need some help with Health & Safety checks of the floats before they start.

You will be required to attend a meeting at the Scottish Hall Barnard St at 10:45 am for the briefing then be at your marshalling post from approx. 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm (depending on which end of the parade you are, as once it has gone past, you are free to leave).

The Health & Safety duties start at 1 pm with a briefing (as above, at the Scottish hall, Barnard Street at 10:45 am) and once the floats have been checked, your job is done.

I would love to hear from you, notifying of the help you are able to give, you can also involve your family and friends by adding them to the list.

Please email me by clicking here... or phone/text  (0274) 661 428.
Thanks
Lynette

Community Christmas Dinner - Helpers Required For 'Pack in & Pack Out'

The Community Christmas Dinner is happening again this year, on December 25th at the Caroline Bay Hall.

Over the years there has been quite a collection of crockery, utensils, accessories etc. amassed (some of which our club has assisted with funding) and it is all stored in a container which our club uses to house some of our records etc.

If you or someone you know - friends, family - are able to volunteer a couple of hours on December 23rd and/or December 25th (following the clean-up of the dinner) to assist with moving from the container to the Bay Hall and back again, please let me know by emailing me (click here...) or phone/text (0274) 661 428.

Your help will be most appreciated.

Lynette

A BIG THANK YOU To Thompsons Refrigeration Services.

The club would like to thank Thompsons Refrigeration Services for their kind donation of first aid kit items for the Woodshed and HDV.

Toot For Tucker 2022

This year we had 9 members who helped collect food donations for our local food banks on Monday evening.
It was a lovely night for food gathering and there was great support for our community.
204 banana boxes were packed up and ready to head out to our local food banks for distribution.
Thanks to the Lions Service Group for organising the event and St Johns for providing the venue.
It's so great to see all of our service organisations working together for the betterment of our community"

PSSC Christmas Angels Project 2022

Christmas is fast approaching and as we did last year, we will be doing the Presbyterian Support South Canterbury Christmas Angels Project again this year.  (For those who don't know - it's a project that helps families who are struggling in day-to-day life and receive some kind of assistance from PPSC/Family Works).

Thank you to those of you who have already donated toys and money for our family. We have some trucks, cars, a bike, a Tonka truck, and Minecraft lights, but we need a little bit more for our family, please!
View the attached flyer with our family's information, we have a Mum, Dad, and two boys ages 6 and 4, please let me know if you can help in any way (I will accept any kind of donation from you - cash, vouchers, or physical prezzies of any size or denomination!). Anything will help to make this Christmas a little more "merry" for our family.
The only thing I ask is if you are planning on buying something a little bit more significant, just let me know so we don't end up with 6 scooters or the like!

You can call or text me at 021 886 812 or email me at hewitson_jessica@hotmail.com

DEADLINE for prezzies or money to be dropped to me is SUNDAY 27th NOVEMBER as we need to drop to Presbyterian Support the following week so they have time to distribute to the family.

Thanks in advance
Jess

Editors Humour.

Twice a year, we change the clocks for daylight-savings time. And twice a year, my normally punctual assistant arrives late to work the Monday after we do so. I finally had to find out why.
"Do you have a problem remembering to spring forward or fall back?" I asked.
"Oh, no," she said, pouring herself a cup of coffee. "What gets to me is staying up until 2 a.m. to change my clock."
________

A guy shows up late for work.
The boss yells, "You should've been here at 8:30!"
The guy replies, "Why? What happened at 8:30?"
________

A duck walks into a drugstore and asks for a tube of ChapStick.
The cashier says to the duck, "That'll be $1.49."
The duck replies, "Put it on my bill!"
______

Joe and Dave are hunting when Dave keels over.
Frantic, Joe dials 911 on his cell phone and blurts, "My friend just dropped dead! What should I do?"
A soothing voice at the other end says, "Don't worry, I can help. First, let's make sure he's really dead."
After a brief silence, the operator hears a shot. Then Joe comes back to the phone.
"Okay," he says nervously to the operator. "What do I do next?"
________

After a long career of being blasted into a net, the human cannonball was tired. He told the circus owner he was going to retire.
"But you can't!" protested the boss. "Where am I going to find another man of your calibre?"
