  • The June solstice (winter solstice) in New Zealand is at 8:24 pm on Sunday, 21st of June 2026.
  • In terms of daylight, this day is 5 hours, 4 minutes shorter than the December solstice.
  • In locations south of the equator, the shortest day of the year is around this date.
  • In Rotary terms, its changeover time, with AM’s, AGM’s and mid-winter dinners!!
• Our club Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on the 23rd of June at our dinner meeting, and the Charitable Trust Annual Meeting (AM) will be on the 21st of June at 166B North Street at 3pm.
  • Final Chairs reports have been coming into the club secretary; however, we don’t have them all yet, I will send a note out to those that we don’t have as yet.
  • The Charitable Trust will need nominations for three (3) Trustees, Chris Visagie has gone to Vietnam and will not be here for his 3rd year, plus we need two other Nominations.
    • These forms are available from Lynette Wilson, our Club Secretary.
    • Greg Sugrue and Robin Peterson will complete their third year as trustees this year.
      • However, they are available for re nomination.

• Our last meeting: 
  • We had several Ashburton Rotarians visit us, as well as our guest speaker Phillip Howe, Director of the South Canterbury Museum
    • He spoke on the new Heritage space on Barnard Street
    • Phillip has advised us that this facility will be open as a Museum in April next year!
• Next meeting night next Tuesday 9th of June: - Tim Exton on progress regarding the AI cameras and the eradication of predators in the Timaru area.
  • Chair for the evening will be Lionel Wilson.
• ​​​​​​​Our visit to the Coptic Church (The old Chalmers Church) was last Wednesday 3rd of June
  • With 23 Rotarians and Partners, Honorary Members, Past Rotarians and Partners and other family members as well.
  • Albert Makary showed us a very impressive church layout that he is justifiably proud of!
  • A meal at EVIE’S (old “Zest” restaurant) afterwards was enjoyed by all who had a meal, a great evening, thanks to Jenny for organising this event!
• We are looking for suggestions for possible Speakers at our meetings in 2026/2027 year, suggestions to Secretary Lynette, or incoming President Andrea Lord.

  • Club Board meeting at 4.30pm on Tuesday 9th of June at the T.T & C.C.
  • Dinner Meeting - Tim Exton – Retired Doc Ranger – Update on the AI Camera’s and an update on developments regarding predators in the Timaru area.
  • 23rd of June - Club AGM and update on our club Action Plan.
  • 27th of June – D9999 Changeover at 12 noon at Riccarton Park in Christchurch, to register get the contact information off the D9999 Friday Admin notices/Newsletter.
  • 30th of June - Club Changeover

    • Timaru Town and Country club
    • At the normal time 5.30pm social time, 6pm Dinner
    • Andrea's theme is “Pink Flamingos”

Good Morning, 

 

I just wanted to take a moment to send an email and express my gratitude for you and the RJ & CF Moyes Trust. 

 

I gave birth to my first child in March of this year in Timaru Hospital, when I was in the ward I was given a book for my baby 

 

"Spot's First Word's" 

 

Along with a lovely note from you explaining the story behind donating the book. I think its a really amazing initiative for families in Timaru/South Canterbury. 

 

My son is now 3 months old and we read a book together everyday. 

 

So thank you again for this and Im sure so many other parents feel the same. This book will be treasured by him and sits proudly on his bookshelf.
