President Bev's Message.

Greetings,

Dave and Kim Woods, who have dubbed themselves 'empty nesters' gave a very informative account of their Camino Norte walk, starting in Irun and finishing 830 km later in Santiago de Compostela. This is the only coastal route available out of 5 options of these famous Spanish Walks. The scenery provided ocean views and a good mixture of agricultural and forestry scenes as the trail led them inland in some places. They knew they were inland as the temperature climbed, 33 deg being the hottest day. There was very little main road walking on this trail.

Their appreciation and fascination of the centuries-old architecture provided another aspect to this incredible journey. They walked for as long as they felt like on any given day, always found comfortable and clean accommodation, enjoyed the hospitality and meeting up with other pilgrims at the end of a day. It was not difficult to get your daily fixes/supplies along the route, however that still made it a challenge to keep the backpack from weighing no more than 10% of your body weight.

Dave and Kim thoroughly enjoyed their 6-7 weeks of just walking, observing and meeting up with several other pilgrims along this route.

I wonder where their next walk will be?

Bev.

Duty Roster Attendance.

It is important (as noted under the "Duty Roster" on the left) that if your name is listed that you organise for someone to do your duty on the night (if you are not attending on the night or you are to be late) as often it is falling to members who are there early in the evening to do the duties (otherwise they are being done later on before the meeting - when those on duty have not appeared). By clicking here it is possible to see the "full" list showing when you are due to be on well in advance to give you plenty of time to organise (swap) with someone. Click here to see your 'host duty tasks' on the night (if you are unsure).

Garage Sale

We are running a Garage Sale on Saturday 23 Nov 19 upstairs in the Function Room at the TTCC. We a looking for a small group to organize the event with Club members assisting on the day. The venue has been booked, so just some co-ordinating to get the project on the move,

At the last meeting held at Peter Russell's on Sunday 6th organizing is well underway, with proceeds going to local charities 'Heart Kids SC' & 'Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society' (it was felt Timaru folk may not relate as well to Polio International (which was first mentioned as one of the charities) so choosing charities that keep their money local made sense. Also, advertising is being looked into, with the next meeting being held at Peter's on Sunday 20th October at 4.

Members will be being called on to assist closer to the event. If you are interested in assisting earlier please let Shaun know.
