President Cheryl's Message

Hi everyone

Delightful to hear from the team from Workbridge. They are working hard to place people in employment who face personal challenges which then helps them sustain an independent lifestyle. Thank you Amy and Vanessa for your commitment to our community and success in your field.

Next week we hear from Kelly Katene who is also working to support a sector of our community with personal challenges. I very much look forward to hearing all about her work.

As I write this, the UK Prime Minister has resigned. This is like Deja Vu - I lived in Australia when they changed Prime Ministers over and over for a few months. I’m not sure what I’m more fascinated by, the original leader choices which were clearly wrong, or the outgoing leaders believing their political career will continue as normal. It’s the definition of normal I find confusing. Is there such a thing?

See you Tuesday

Yours aye
Cheryl

Kindling Chopping Sat. 29th October.

You are invited to come to a kindling woodworking bee on Saturday 29th October, starting at 9 am and finish at 12 noon.  The location is a shed (the sign above the sliding door is 'STORE 2) on LHS of Hayes St (when coming from wharf end).
We have boxes of wood to cut into kindling. We need people with tomahawks and some people to stack boxes with the cut kindling.
As always a good morning tea will be provided.
Regards
Tony Henderson

Lynette, Tony, Russell & Bev. at our last kindling chopping morning (28th May).

SCDL 'Run For Your Wife' Comedy.

The Little Theatre's latest show ('Run For Your Wife') is a comedy (to view more information click here...).

This is s superb example of British farce and has had audiences rolling in the aisles in London and New York and now in Timaru.
If you would like to attend, please email me ASAP by clicking here... - (unless you have already answered the email I sent out on Wednesday) - so I can block-book our tickets.

The best option for us appears to be opening night Friday 28th October as there is no performance on Monday, Tuesday is Rotary, and Wednesday and Thursday are almost sold out.
Tickets are $20 each if we can get 20 seats sold.

This looks like a popular show, please reply promptly so we don't miss out.
Regards
Tony

Editors Humour.

Frank was in line at a restaurant. In front of him was a mother with her college-age son and his girlfriend. It was the middle of the dinner rush, and many customers were restless at the long wait, but the young couple, holding hands and kissing, were oblivious to everything around them. Although clearly not approving, the mother was silent, until one prolonged kiss when the young man had his face and hands buried in his girlfriend's long, curly locks.
"Do you have to do that here?" the embarrassed mother asked.
"I'm not doing anything, Mom," came her son's muffled voice. "My earring's caught in her hair."

While away on business, a colleague and Peter decided to catch a movie. As they entered the theatre, they read the sign in the foyer. It bore the name of the feature film followed by the numbers 7, 5, and 9. Assuming these were the show times, they were somewhat perplexed by their order. they went inside to ask about it.
"Our next show is at eight o’clock," the woman in the box office announced.
"Eight o’clock?" Peter said, surprised. "But the sign says 7, 5 and 9."
"Right," she agreed. "That’s 7:59. We lost our number eight."

When my friend got a job, her husband agreed to share the housework. He was stunned by the amount of effort involved in keeping a house clean with small boys to pick up after and insisted that he and his wife shop for a new vacuum cleaner. The salesman gave them a demonstration of the latest model.
"It comes equipped with all the newest features," he assured them.
The husband was not convinced. "Don't you have a ride-on one?"

Joy's husband, who is an auto mechanic, received a repair order that read: "Check for clunking noise when going around corners." Taking the car out for a test drive, he made a right turn, and a moment later heard a clunk. He then made a left turn and again heard a clunk. Back at the shop, he opened the trunk and soon discovered the problem. Promptly he returned the repair order to the service manager with this notation: "Remove bowling ball from trunk."
