President Jess's Message.

Herkese merhaba (hello everyone in Turkish).

Amazing news rescuers found little 3-year-old Elif Perincek alive after being trapped for 65 hours in rubble after Turkey’s earthquake last weekend.

November is “Rotary Foundation Month” on the Rotary Calendar. Don’t forget to get your tickets for our Polio movie fundraiser on the 24th November!

Glen Smith was along this week as our guest speaker. He talked about his work with Caroline House (CH) and his long history working within drug addiction services.  I have known Glen personally for over 20 years and what I really enjoy about him is that he doesn’t change too much! He’s honest and open about who he is and where he’s come from and that is a huge advantage for him, especially in the work he’s been doing since leaving the Police.  Glen’s passion has always been to help people and especially helping the families who have had addiction come into the mix. Sadly we have a huge drug problem in our area (not the 1st time we have heard this from a guest speaker) so he is kept really busy! AT CH they are seeing kids from about 18, right through to more senior people come through the doors and often the addiction is covering up a deeper issue.

It was nice to have Michelle Taylor along as well, she is Glen’s Manager and is our Colin’s daughter.

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

Not Received The Bulletin??

For some unexplainable reason members computers seem to decide to place the weekly bulletin in the 'Junk' ('Spam') folder of their emails from time to time - so if you do not receive the bulletin any week please check this folder (and I can almost guarantee 99% of the time you will find it there).
Each week after sending the bulletins out I check the 'Send History' in Clubrunner to verify any that get 'dropped' (not sent) and check the reason why (of the 79 odd bulletins that are sent out only between 0 & 2 are dropped).
Stephen (Editor).

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.
Stephen

This year’s movie is I Am Woman. It’s the story of Australian singer/songwriter, Helen Reddy, who shot to global stardom in the seventies. While set in the US, the movie is a local production. Tilda Cobham-Hervey is sensational in the lead role.

Helen Reddy passed away on Tuesday, 29th September in Los Angeles from Dementia.

Editors Humour.

Should a Child Witness Childbirth?

Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call.

The house was very dark, so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-year-old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her mother so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born.

The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and patted him on his bottom. Connor began to cry. The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-year-old what she thought about what she had just witnessed. Kathleen quickly responded, 'He shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place.........smack him again!'
