President Peter's Message

Our 90th celebrations are fast approaching on November 14th. Gilly and her team are finalising the programme for the evening.  This will be a semi-formal affair and we look forward to welcoming old friends – past Rotarians, current local club presidents and our District Governor. Keith Bartholomew will be giving a power point presentation outlining highlights of the past ninety years, each past president will tell of one achievement in their time of office, we will have a brief summary of our three benefactors and we will be inducting a new NRG member. Above all, we will enjoy reminiscing and socialising with our old friends. The cost will be $35 per person and the menu is enclosed.

This week several members took part in the NRG quiz at The Sail. Judy Dolman was a member of the team which came second and our Rotary Moas team, consisting of Peter, Janet, John and Gilly came third. Next week’s meeting will be a club night and the following week the Board meeting will follow our meeting. Note that this is a week early because of our 90th celebrations on November 14th

Many hands ... get a lot done for our community.

Over the past 3-and-a-half months our Club members have:
  • cut and delivered kindling for senior citizens
  • helped clear fallen trees from a Douglas Street property (an NRG-led project)
  • sold something like $8,800 worth of hot dogs, chips and drinks at the Hot Dog Van to raise funds for community projects
  • helped Red Cross pack up after their Book Sale
  • started water-blasting the fence at the roller skating rink on Caroline Bay
  • helped with the community blood pressure checking programme
  • begin preparations for the tree-planting project at the wetlands
  • raised funds by selling pies at the home show (another NRG-led project)
  • worked towards erecting signage at the Jacks Point lighthouse
  • helped Plunket by manning (peopleing?) the carpark at the Horror Maize
  • gathered, split and delivered firewood as a fundraiser (yet another NRG-led project)
  • started planning for a food-bank stocking project to be held next year
  • ... and there's more in the pipeline ...
All up we've clocked just on 600 hours of volunteeering in 14 weeks!

And had great fun doing it ...
