President Bev's Message.

Greetings,

I have huge admiration for a team of specialists who give their time, outside of work hours, preparing manuals which are then translated in a number of dialects, carry several kilos of support equipment and travel to a third world country to embark on a training journey to better the lives of those nationals. When they arrive, their project still has to be ratified by the Ministry of Health, may only reach a few of those in the field and could hinder the outcomes for these specialists.

Fortunately for this Vocational Training Team of five including Julie Dockrill, there was a successful outcome with the Nepalese Ministry of Health. With the support of the Rotary Clubs of Timaru, Gisborne and Kathmandu, Seven Women Organisation of Nepal and the Midwifery Organisation and Head of Nursing School in Nepal the outlook for dramatically improving the Maternal and Child Health statistics is certain.

The infant mortality rate is 48 per 1,000 births. 70% of deaths of under 5 is related to malnutrition. Studies have shown that providing schools in Nepal with toilets and clean running water improves the health of the children by 90%. Clearly, there is a huge amount of work to be done in Nepal.

Members Rotary Apparel.

All Members should have received by now an email Stephen sent out late last week with a list of Rotary apparel to select from and a link to the order form to be filled out.

As mentioned in the email the club has decided that we would like members when working in public to be easily identified as Rotarians (so the club will provide a T-shirt- at no cost to you (valued at $20.00), if you choose to order any of the other clothing option(s) on the list instead of the T-shirt the club will pay $20.00 toward the cost. If you order a free T-Shirt you can order other additional items at your cost at the prices listed).

If anyone has any questions (or a problem placing their order) click contact Stephen.

Polio Eradication Fundraiser Movie.

"Ride Like a Girl" is the story of Michelle Payne, who in 2015, was the first woman jockey to win the Melbourne Cup on her 100-1 outsider mount, Prince of Penzance.
Doug Weir was the trainer and he hired Michelle to ride Prince of Penzance.

This is being hosted by the Waimate and Oamaru Clubs on 18 October in Waimate.
