President Cheryl's Message

Hi everyone

It never ceases to amaze me the huge number of people within a local community who work hard and are committed to helping others either as an employee or volunteer. The Victim Support team working with Police and other agencies is no exception. We thank Kelly Katene for her presentation last Tuesday. She and her team do great work in this regard.

Next week it’s club night. Make sure you bring along your ideas to put on the table. It will also be an opportunity for a catch-up as to what is happening for the rest of the year.

Yours aye
Cheryl

'Toot For Tucker' 21st November

The Timaru Lions Clubs are again coordinating the "Toot For Tucker" food collection on Monday 21st November from 5:30 p.m. (in time for Christmas) and are again asking for volunteers to help (for more information click here...).
It is suggested that there be 2-3 collectors per tooting vehicle.
Anyone who can help (by driving or being a collector) please contact Lynette by Sunday 13th November (and we can co-ordinate club members).

Hot Dog Van Last Saturday

We had a great day out at Pleasant Point Domain on Saturday for the Heartland Rugby finals. Congrats to SC who made history and won back-to-back titles!
The van was busy, and the customers were very happy to have us back at the rugby!

Thanks to the crew who worked- Coralie, Bev, Jenny, Jess, with Bruce and Basil on supplies and van towing (to view photo larger click here...)

We still need to fill a lot of gaps on the roster in November. Please, if you are free, come along to help us! Some of the CAMS shift times can be changed and are not set in stone, so just have a chat with me about any changes.

Editors Humour.

A couple of hours into a visit with his mother she noticed Patrick hadn’t lit up a cigarette once.
"Are you trying to kick the habit?"
"No," Patrick replied, "I’ve got a cold and I don’t smoke when I’m not feeling well."
"You know," she observed, "you’d probably live longer if you were sick more often."

When the skipper of an Icelandic trawler accidentally rammed Englishman Jim Hughes's yacht, he caused $30,000 worth of damage.
Exactly a year and a day before, reported the London Times, the skipper, Erik Olafsson, had hit the same boat, causing $40,000 in damage.
What are the odds of this happening twice? Pretty good, since Olafsson purposely steered toward Hughes to apologize for the previous year's collision.

Which windshield wiper blade always quits first? That's right—the driver's side.
This happened to Jess one day while driving home in the middle of a blinding storm.
Unable to see, she pulled over and tried to figure out a quick fix. she found it in a yellow cotton work glove that was lying on the floor. She wedged the cloth hand under the wiper arm.
It did a great job keeping her windshield clear. Not only that— you'd be surprised at how many people waved back.

Jill & Sam purchased an old home in Twizel from two elderly sisters. Winter was fast approaching, and Jill was concerned about the house's lack of insulation.
"If they could live here all those years, so can we!" Sam confidently declared.
One July night the temperature plunged to below zero, and they woke up to find interior walls covered with frost.
Sam called the sisters to ask how they had kept the house warm.
After a brief conversation, he hung up. "For the past 30 years," he muttered, "they've gone to Florida for the winter."
