President Jess's Message.

Hallo zusammen (German for hello everyone)

We had a very special acknowledgement this week – a huge congratulations to Paul Dewsbery on his 40th year in Rotary this week. Such a great achievement for someone who has worked tirelessly for our Club and community for the past 40 years.
Well done Paul 😊.

On Monday night some of us (Tony, Stephen, Gilly, Jenny, Jim, Shirley & Hubby John, Emma, Lionel, Lynette and myself) helped out in the Toot For Tucker drive organised by Lions.  We had a lovely night out collecting for the local food banks. It was very well supported this year with a lot of food collected.  Thanks to those who came out to help out for the night.

Christmas Party 15th December.

image
Partners Night - mark the night in your calendar NOW.

It will be at the Landing Services Conference Centre (Above Speights Ale House) the same place as last year.

Cost is $55.00 per person - to view menu click here...

We enter from the glass door entrance at the back of Speights Ale House, that is actually the entrance to the Landing Service Building. To be clear it’s not at Speights Ale House it's at the Landing Services building.
We will gather from 6 pm for drinks and social time, with an official start time of 6.45 pm, mains served at 7 pm (approx. meal time).

Everyone needs to go into the Xmas notification booking system (click here...) with an RSVP either yes or no - along with numbers attending if yes.

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

Last Kindling Chopping Morning For 2020.

On Saturday 12th December we will be holding our last kindling chopping morning' for the year, from 9 - 12.
As many as possible attending would be appreciated (and of course there will be our normal lovely morning tea supplied).

Pictured above is our last morning held on the 5th September.

The New Faces of Rotary.

The following is an excerpt from this week's Wellington Rotary Club bulletin:-

Those who were at the Wellington Club on Wednesday evening had a rare treat, hearing three young Rotary club presidents - Kriddles Roberts of Waitakere, Ramola Ladge of Awapuni, and Jess Hewitson of Timaru - speak about their Rotary experience, how they became involved, what they hope to achieve, the challenges along the way.  We called it 'The New Face of Rotary' and certainly they presented a very different picture of the organisation, one which says much to our club as we head into our second century.

Not Received The Bulletin??

For some unexplainable reason members computers seem to decide to place the weekly bulletin in the 'Junk' ('Spam') folder of their emails from time to time - so if you do not receive the bulletin any week please check this folder (and I can almost guarantee 99% of the time you will find it there).
Each week after sending the bulletins out I check the 'Send History' in Clubrunner to verify any that get 'dropped' (not sent) and check the reason why (of the 79 odd bulletins that are sent out only between 0 & 2 are dropped).
Stephen (Editor).

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.
Stephen

Editors Humour.

At the doctors, I asked him how he decided who went into an old folks home?

“Well,” he said. “We fill the bathtub up then offer the person a spoon, cup or bucket to empty the bath”

“Oh,” I said, “A normal person would opt for the bucket”.

“No,” he said “A normal person would pull the plug”

“Do you want a bed near the window?”

Secrets to a long happy marriage

An old woman was sipping on a glass of wine while sitting on the patio with her husband.

She says, “I love you so much, I don’t know how I could ever live without you”.

Her husband asks, “Is that you or the wine talking?”

She replies, “It’s me … talking to the wine”.
