President Jess's Message.

Pozdrav svima (Croatian for hello everyone, seeing as it’s across the ditch from the home country of the losing Luna Rossa team)
Well isn’t that some good news for Emirates Team NZ this week! 😊 I’m sure that are some very happy people around at the moment!

This week we were lucky enough to get the first look at the plans for CPlay’s Caroline Bay playground upgrade (click here to view...). What a fantastic playground this will be. The group of volunteers who have formed the CPlay committee (which now has our own Lynette as Secretary) have done an incredible job of getting this project off the ground and created (on the plans) a wonderful place for the whole family to enjoy and also learn about the history of our area. It will tie in nicely with the bike skills park too!  It was great to see in the video that many local groups are supporting the project and will benefit from the new playground. I wish them all good luck with the 1.5 million they will need to raise to get the project completed.

Georgia Dobbs Letter Of Thanks.

As mentioned in President Jess's Blurb Georgia Dobbs (who we helped fund to go to 'Outward Bound') sent us a letter of thanks while on the course - to view click here...

Next Weeks Meeting
Tuesday 30th March 2021
Club Night.

REMEMBER: - Tonight before the meal we are having our Club Photo taken.

Followed by a Charitable Trust Board meeting at Lynette & Lionel's (166B North St).

Members are reminded to put in an apology for the meeting by noon on Monday (otherwise they are liable to be charged) - click on the following link to apologise:-

Host Duties.

When doing Host Duties (i.e. Duty Roster), please remember that you set tables, raffles etc up for the night.
Then at the end of the meeting you need to pack up again and return table numbers etc. into the box and put away.
The large sign outside door must also be packed away (this part isn't always been done).
It then falls to those leaving last.

RAFFLE PRIZES

For this Rotary year, President Jess would like members to take turns at providing the raffle prize (no alcohol please), either by buying a prize to the value of $10 to $15 (keep the receipt and ask Treasurer Jenny for reimbursement using the claims form click here...) or maybe you have a suitable prize you'd like to donate.

To make it simple to keep track of whose turn it is, the person on Host Duty 2 will be asked to provide the raffle prize for the week.

When it's your turn to provide the prize:
  • Please put the prize on the Host table no later than 5:30 pm.
  • Make sure there's a raffle sheet (from the host bin) and a pen on the table.
  • If you are unable to attend Rotary, and you are unable to find someone to swap, please contact Robyn Baldwin so she can arrange cover for the night.

HELP NEEDED for Presentation of Dictionaries

I still need helpers to present dictionaries to year 4 pupils at the 'Fairlie District' and 'Pleasant Point' schools.
A pleasant job and you can arrange the date and time to suit yourself (NOTE: - school holidays begin Friday 16th April - returning on Monday 3rd May).
If you can help please ring me -  Keith Bartholomew 688 1446.

Rotary Give Every Child A Future.

Our Charitable Trust has donated $45.00 per club member to vaccinate a child - to read the newsletter explaining more click here...

Shelter Box Quiz Night 6th May.

Get out your diaries and block off the evening of the 6th of May (Thursday), I will be organising a quiz night at Bay Hill Brewery Bar (Monteith’s) to raise money for Shelter Box.
Details to follow.
If you had any contacts who I might be able to convince into donating some prizes or if there is a business that would be in a position so sponsor some vouchers or gifts etc, please let me know 😊 and of course start thinking of who you want on your team 😉.

Visit To Ashburton Rotary Club - 23rd March.

As mentioned above the date is Tuesday 23rd March.
Guest speaker is Michael Todd (son of one of Rotarian members) who will be speaking on his role with WINZ.
We will need numbers attending (with any dietary matters) to Ashburton by Friday 19th March lunchtime (12 Noon).
We can do this on our normal sheet, we just need engagement by all club members so they can apologise on the sheet by that Friday at noon.
We also need members to advise me if they can take a car and how many they can take as passengers.
I suggest we meet in the T & C car park at 4.45 pm to allocate seats on the 23rd of March.
Cheers,
Lionel

Salvation Army 'Red Shield' Appeal.

The club has received a request from the Salvation Army to assist with collectors for their 'Red Shield Street Appeal' on the week of 10th - 15th May.
The board has decided we will not as a club commit to this but if any member wishes to assist by collecting (as an individual) outside either Countdown Victoria St, Countdown Church St, Northtown Mall or Timaru New World they should contact Raewyn on 027 511 3227 or email Raewyn.butler@salvationarmy.org.nz.

Volunteers Required For St John “Heart of Gold” Annual Appeal.

Please check your diaries and if you are able, mark it down for a spot on the roster.

When: Friday 9th April, 9 am – 6 pm

Where: New World Supermarket, Timaru

We will be compiling a roster closer to the date, but in the interim, if you notify me of your intention to be involved and your preferred time, it would be very much appreciated.

Pumpkins For Polio.

'Pumpkins for Polio' is what I hope will be a  fun way for our members to raise funds and awareness of our continued fight to eradicate Polio.

Attached you will find posters and information sheets to help sell this to your clubs, you are welcome to have others (non-members) take part if it might help get them involved in Rotary and supporting this cause, provided they can raise the funds to support their pumpkin.

Information Required.

Remember this is "your" bulletin and so please email information to me on what your committee is doing (or planning) so everyone can be aware of it.
Lack of the above will mean the bulletin is not advising the members of what is happening in the club & particapation will be down.
Stephen

Editors Humour.

Two men are out for the day at their favorite fishing spot.
It’s a great day to enjoy, and to help it along they are having a beer.
Almost silently, so as not to disturb the fish, Earl says “I think I’m going to divorce my wife – she hasn’t spoken to me for over 2 months”.
Pat ponders this for a while, slowly sipping his beer then thoughtfully says.
“You better think it over – women like that are hard to find”.
